UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
' BAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 1, 1907.
Application filed May 19,1906. Serial No; 317,684. I
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, KARL OSWALD, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing 'at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New ings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide certain new and useful improvements in bags, whereby a convenient and independent purse or change-pocket is provided entirely separate from the bag proper, to enable the user to readily carry change separate from the customary articles carried in the bag, and to allow conveniently the removing of such change without exposing and displaying said customary articles.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in the claims. I
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several fig ures, Figure 1 shows a front elevation of a bag-frame embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on lines :1: 0c of Fig. 1.
In said drawings, a and a indicate a pair of frame-sections, which are pivotally connected or hinged at their lower end portions a in the usual manner by any suitable means, as clearly indicated in the several figures of the drawings, the said frame-sections, if desired, being covered with leather or any other desirable material, as will be understood. The frame-sections a and a are provided with a central longitudinal depression I). Centrally and suitably secured therein, preferably by means of depending lugs (1, formed integral with the purse 0, upon the upper surface of the frame-section a is a purse 0, designed to inclose and protect small change or the like. Secured to the inner side of the frame-section a and passing through an opening formed in said framesection is a clip e, provided with suitable openings adapted to engage with corresponding projections formed on the holding-catch j, which is secured to the frame-section a in any convenient manner, designed to firmly unite and secure said frame-sections together.
The lower portion of the purse 0 is made of a shape to conform with the central longitudinal depression of the bag-frame sections a and a. The purse 0 is furnished with a lid g, hinged or otherwise fastened to the purse 0 at h. The lid 9 is provided with a suitable catch i, which engages with a suitable opening at the top of the purse.
It is obvious that the purse may be made of various shapes and sizes to suit the fancy of the purchaser and may consist of any well-known materials, preferably metallic substances. The top and body of the purse may be suitably engraved, if desired. It will also be obvious from the above description that the device is capable of considerable modification. For instance, the material inclosed by the circular bezel on the front of the purse or receptacle 0 may be removed or cut away in order to afford a convenient opening to expose an open-faced watch, which could conveniently be secured to the interior of said purse or receptacle 0. The handle-caps, to which the handle is secured and which are common on bag-frames of this structure, are preferably secured to the frame-section a in order to facilitate the opening of the bag.
I claim 1 1. A bag-frame member, said member hav ing a central longitudinal depression therein and a purse secured in said depression.
2. A bag-frame comprising a pair of hinged members each having a central longitudinal depression therein and a purse secured in the longitudinal depression of one of said members.
3. A bag-frame member having a longiframe mernbers'having central depressions I This specification signed and witnessed therein, a coin-purse secured in the depresthis 17th day of May,l906.
