Description

' PAT-ENTED DEG. 25, 1906.
CARD CASE.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 1, 190a.
HENRY c. ARMSTRONG, or ASHLAND, WISCONSIN.
CARD-CASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
Application filed May 1, 1905. Serial No. 258,234.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY C. ARMSTRONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ashland, in the county of Ashland and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements 1n card-cases of that type which comprise an outer boxing and a drawer operating therein, the object of the invention-being to construct the case in a peculiar manner so that the cards will be held securely in position within the drawer and will not become accidentally disarranged.
For a full description'of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of.
the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a erspective view of the device, showing t e drawer as partly withdrawn. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view. Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the drawer.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
The card-case comprising the present in- I vention consists, essentially, of an outer casing or boxing 1 and a drawer 2 operating therein. The case is formed'in the usual manner by a top and bottom connected by osite sides and having one end closed,
w hlle the drawer 2 is constructed with a air of oppositely-disposed side pieces 3, w ich are connected by a front andwhich are provided at their top and bottom with inwardly extending horizontal flanges which form grooved channels for the reception of a pack of playing-cards. At a point adjacent the front of the drawer the two side pieces 3 are connected by transverse members, which form a compartment 4 for the reception of any small articles, such as pegs used in counting, and also serves as a reinforcing means i for the drawer.
With the drawer constructed as above described it will be apparent that the cards will be held securely in position against beingv scattered or displaced and that a firm grip i may be readily obtained upon them in order to slide them out from the channels formed in the side pieces 3. I
While it does not constitute any part of the present invention, the top of the boxing -1 is shown in the drawings as having a tier or raised seats 6 and 7 located thereon, the first seat 6 being formed with a series of holes which may be employed in connection with the pegs 5 for countin units, while the second seat is provided wit a similar series of holes 9 for countingtens.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed asnew, anddesired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
In anew article of manufacture, the combination of a case comprising a top and bottom connected by opposite sides and having one end closed while the opposite end is open, a drawer slidable through the open end of the box and comprisinigroppositely-disposed sides and a connecting out, the said sides being provided upon their upper and lower edges, respectively, with'inwardly-extending longitudinal flanges for the reception of a pack of playing-cards, and transverse members connectin the sides of the drawer adjacent the front t" ereof and serving the double function of reinforcing the drawer and forming a compartment;
1 In testimony whereof I 'affix my signature in'presence of two witnesses.
