To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, IIYDEsABUno OHASHI, a subject of the Mikado of Japan, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collars, of which the following is a specification.

It is a well known fact that mens coatcollars have a tendency to either ride upward over or fall below the shirt-collar, thus not only presenting an ill-fittin'g unsightly appearance, but also entailing more or less dlscomfort to the nearer, the tendency of the coat-collarto ride upward bein'g more pronounced when the wearer is sitting arid to fall below the shirt-collar, particularly in instances of poorly-fitting garments or when heavy articles are, carried in the pockets of the garment.

This invention relates to collars, and has for its objects to produce a comparatively simple inexpensive device of this character provided with means for engagement with the coat-collar for preventing undue upward or downward movement of the latter, one wherein a secure tempora T connection between the coat and shirt collars may be readily effected, and one whereby the above- ,lso

With theseand other objects in view the invention comprises the novel features of construction and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described.

In the accompanying drawing the figure is an elevation of a collar embodying the invention.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a shirt-collar composed of linen or other suitable material and of usual form-having end. tabs 2, provided with buttonholes 3, there being formed at the center of the collar near its lower edge a rear buttonhole 4.

In accordance with my invention the collar has formed thereon at its longitudinal center and in line with the rear buttonhole 4 a vertically-depending projection or tab 5, provided with opposed lateral openings or recesses 6, of substantially triangular form, as shown, andadapted to receive the usual attached to the innerface of tab 5 at the lower ends of the recesses laterally-extending engaging portions or ears 7,

The upper ends of the openings 6 extend into the loweredge of the collar, thus forming in the latter at opposite sides of the tab a pair of notches or seats presenting downwardly and outwardly inclined engaging edges 9, which engage above the hanger-strap.

In practice thecollar is applied in the ordinary manner to the shirt, and after the coat has been donned the hanger-strap at the inner face of the coat-collar is engaged with the shirt-collar by inserting the tab 5 through the hanger-strapand engaging the ears 7 beneath the lower edge of the strap, the upper edge of which is inserted beneath the engaging portion 9 at the upper ends of the re-' cesses 6, through which latter the strap is ex-. tended. It is apparent that when the parts are thus united the coat-collar will be prevented from riding upward on or falling below the lower edge of the shirt-collar, whereby'the parts will be maintained in proper relation to present a neat appearance, and, further, that the tab will be securel engaged with the strap and its accidental isengagement therefrom wholly obviated.

Having thus described my invention, what I. claim is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, a shirt-.-

collar provided at its rear with means for engagement with the shirt and with means for engagement with a coat-hanger strap.

2. As a new article of manufacture, a shirtcollar provided at its rear with means for engagement with a shirt and with a depending tab having openings or recesses to receive a coat-hanger strap.

3. As a new artic e of manufacture, "1 shirtcollar provided at its rear with means for engagementwith the-shirt and with a depending tab having laterally-projecting ears designed for engagement with the lower edge of a coat-hanger strap, the collar being notched at the upper end of the tab to receive the upper edge of the strap.
