To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CALVIN P. MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Inhalers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices of the pocket-inhaler type, and the object thereof is to construct a sanitary inhaler designed to contain volatile material or substances the fumes or Vapors of which are useful in treating certain diseases, provided with a compartment for containing other articles commonly carried by an individual.

A further object of this invention is to so construct the device that when used as an inhaler the same cannot be inserted in the nostril, thus rendering the same much more sanitary than the ordinary type of inhaler, and it is a further object of this invention to construct the inhaler portion thereof in such a manner that it may be effectually closed to prevent the loss or escape of the fumes or vapors of the medicine contained therein.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts constituting the invention to be hereinafter referred to, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, in which is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention; but it is to be understood that changes, variations, and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.

In the drawings, in which similar referencenumerals indicate like parts in the different figures, Figure 1 is a side elevation of my im proved device, and Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same.

In the drawings in which is illustrated a preferred type of my device, the referencenumeral 1 designates the body portion of the device, which is preferably constructed in the form of a hollow tube of any suitable or preferred size or material; but experience has shown that hard rubber is the best substance obtainable for this purpose. This body portion 1 is divided approximately centrally by a partition 2, which may be integral with the body portion 1 as illustrated in the drawings, or may be made removable, as desired. On one side of the partition 2 exists an open space 3, which is designed to constitute a receptacle for such objects as pills, capsules, or any other substance ordinarily carried by a person, and this portion of the tube is closed by a cap 4, having exterior screw-threads which engage threads cut in the interior of the ends of the body portion 1, thus constituting an easy means of closing the tube and rendering the same capable of containing the material hereinbefore referred to. If desired, a menthol cone (designated in the drawings by the reference-numeral 5) may be attached to the inner end of the cap 4 and may be removed with the cap for use at any time. The opposite end of the device on the other side of the partition 2 constitutes the inhaler portion of my device and contains two removable partitions 6 and 7, both of Which'are centrally perforated and between which is placed any medicinal compound which may be required by the user of the device, and this medicine is indicated in the drawings by the reference-numeral 8. The partitions 6 and 7 are preferably constructed of cork, although any other suitable substance may be employed which will effectually maintain the medicine in place between them. Between the partitions 2 and 6 is an opening 9 through the Wall of the tubular body 1. The end of the tube adjacent the partition 7 is closed by means of a screwthreaded cap 10, designed to engage threads formed in the interior of this end of the tube 1.

In using the device as an inhaler the cap 10 is removed or loosened sufficiently to permit an ingress of air to the medicine contained between the partitions 6 and 7 through the perforation in the partition 7, and the device is placed in such a position as to bring the opening 9 opposite the nostril, so that the fumes or vapors from the medicine 8 may be withdrawn from the device through the opening in the partition 6 and outwardly through the opening 9 to the nostril of the patient. When the device is not in use, the closing of the cap 10 against the end of the tube serves to prevent the escape of the fumes or vapors from the medicine by Way of the opening 9 by reason of the fact that as no air can enter the end of the tube closed by the cap 10 it is impossible for the vapors or fumes of the medicine 8 to escape from the device.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A device of the class described comprising a tubular body divided near its center by a partition, a cap to close one end of said device whereby a receptacle is formed between said cap and said partition, a plurality of perforated partitions in the opposite end of said body, a cap to close the end thereof, said '3 5 body portion being provided with a perforation between the said central partition and the first of said perforated partitions.
