UNITED STATES PATENT @FFICE.
.SYRIN GE Application filed January 3, 1908.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAnLoN FINLY ONG, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Syringes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The purpose of the invention is to provide compact syringe, one that can be conveniently carried upon the person and one in which the piston is provided with a chamber adapted to contain medical ingredients to be dissolved in the liquid to be injected.
It is a further purpose of the invention to so construct the piston that it will be ermanently closed at its outer end, and so t rat the piston head will act as a stop er, since it is removable and admits of tab ets, powders, or granular or crystallized substances contained in the'body of the piston, being removed in desired quantities for introduction in the barrel of the syringe, to be commingled with the liquid drawn therein.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved syringe, the parts being in normal po sition; and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the instrument drawn upon a larger scale, the parts being in operative position.
The instrument is preferably made mainly of glass, but rubber or other suitable material may be employed in its construction if so desired. The barrel A of the syringe is provided with a conical outlet 10, as is customary, and is also provided with an open top 11, the material at the said top being flared outward to admit of the ready intro Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 409,150.
1 duction of a piston B. This piston B is tubular and is provided with a closed upper end 12 and with a head 13 at its lower end, constructed preferably of rubber, leather, or like material, ca able of clinging to the inside of the barrel A into which the piston B is introduced.
In the chamber 14 formed in the piston B medicaments 15 are introduced, for example, tablets, as shown in the drawings, powder or crystallized substances, and these introduced or received medicaments are held in place by the piston head 13 that acts as a stopper to the piston. Hence these medicaments are also in position for use, and by removing the head 13 the material can be removed from the piston B and be placed in the barrel A, so that when the piston is drawn upward or outward to draw in liquid, the liquid will mingle with the material introduced into the barrel and will be ejected with it.
A syringe constructed as described is exceedingly simple, and enables a charge to be carried and protected in the article itself.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,-
1. A syringe, comprising a barrel, and a piston having a hollow body forming a storage chamber for medicaments and provided with a removable iston head forming a closure for the said 0 iamber.
2. A syringe, comprising a barrel, and a piston formed of a hollow body open at its inner end and forming a storage chamber for medicaments, and a removable piston head in the form of a plug fitting in the open end of the body and forming a closure therefor.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARLON FINLY ONG. Witnesses:
