GARNIENT-FASTENING.
Specification of Letters Ifatent.
Patented Nov. 2o, 1906.
Application filed January 29, 1906. Serial No. 298,445.
To @ZZ Awhom it Wha/y concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST KUsoHE, a subject of the German Emperor, residing at 67 Michaelisstrasse, Breslau, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a fastening device for clothing, the top plate of which is furnished with spring extensions' adapted to be pushed sidewise into the bottom plate.
The essential feature of the invention consists in the arrangement whereby two slots extend from the opening in the bottom plate, by means of which the top plate is inserted in the bottom pl te, and in these slots angular spring extensions on the top plate engage, theV extensions being so arranged that the fastening device can be loosened by simply `moving the two plates one against the other. l/Vhen the fastening is eected, the angular spring extensions on the top plate lie under the edges of the slots in the bottom plate, and thereby hold the top plate and the bottom plate firmly together. The slots, moreover, prevent the top plate from turning in the bottom plate. No permanent change in the shape of the spring extensions occurs, as when the device is locked the extensions back again into their original position and the top plate and the bottom plate are securely fastened together.
Referring to the accompanying sheet of in which the invention is illustrated on an enlarged scale, Figure 1 is a side elevation of the bottom plate; Fig. 2, a plan of the bottom plate seen from below; Fig. 3, a side elevation of the top plate; Fig. 4, a plan of the same from below, and Fig. 5 being a section through A B in Fig. 2, showing the two plates in position as fastened together.
The bottom plate a is formed with an insertion-slot e, from the narrow end b of which two other slots c extend, having a tongue g left between them. The edges of the slots c are suitably strengthened by being bent vertically, as at d d. The extensions 'it are bent out of the top plate h and are also turned over at the ends c k. When it is desired to fasten the device, the top plate h is pushed from the side onto the plate a, so that the spring extensions t' enter the slot e. The extensions 'i t slide along the edges ff, which run together toward the middle of the plate, until they reach the end b of the slot e, when they enter the slots c, springing back into their original position. The angular parts 7c k lie under the bent parts d d in the bottom plate, and thereby hold the plates firmly together. The fastening can be loosened by simply pushing the two plates one against the other.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A fastening device for clothing, consisting of a top plate, a pair of spring-tongues on the plate, a bottom plate having a wedgeshaped recess terminating in two angular slots or recesses adapted to receive and retain the said tongues in the top plate.
2. A fastening device for clothing, consisting of a dished top plate, a pair of springtongues on the plate, a dished bottom plate having a wedge-shaped recess terminating in two angular slots or recesses adapted to receive and retain the said tonguesin the top plate.
3. In a fastening device for clothing consisting of a top plate, a pair of integral springtongues on the plate, a bottom plate having a wedge-shaped recess terminating in two angular slots or recesses adapted to receive and retain the said tongues in the top plate.
4. A fastening device for clothing, consisting of a top plate, a pair of spring-tongues on the plate, a bottom plate having a wedgeshaped recess terminating in two angular slots or adapted to receive and retain the said tongues on the top plate, and strengthening-lips on the slots substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
ERNST KUSCHE.
