- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 23, 1906.
Application filed December 13, 1904. Serial No. 236,693.
T0 at whom it may concern: Be it known that I, ADIN G. PIERCE, residing'in the borough of Manhattan, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Floors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to the construction of fireproof flooring; and it consists of means whereby fireproof flooring may be readily laid at a minimum of expense.
In the accompanying drawings I have shown means'whereby my new and improved flooring may be laid, and in the claims appended to this application I have set forth the essential features, it being understood, however, that I do not limit myselfto the construction shown, but that any other construction is included within the limits composed by the state of the art.
In the drawings, Figure I is a sectional view of a floor-arch constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. II is an isometric view of a device employing aid of such construction and which also forms part of my invention. 7
In the drawings, a 1) indicate suitable girders, herein shown as I-beams. Enveloping the said I-beams are suitable removable cement boxes or molds c d. The molds are adapted to support an expansible centeringbar, hereinafter fully described; This expansible centering-bar is shown herein by way of example as a bar 6 and a bar f. The bar 6 carries at one end and approximately at its top edge a hook g, and the bar f similarly carries a hook h. These bars are adapted to slide laterally upon each other and to form a collapsible structure for the purposes of supporting the centering. Each bar e f is provided with a hook or other suitably-shaped support of, which extends beneath and forms a support for the adjacent bar.
The mode of using the device is as follows: The twobars e f are slid upon each other until the hooks g h hook over the top edges of the boxes 0 and d, the centering is being supported by such compound bar. The cement flooring is then suitably cased into the-s aces thus formed, which cement flooring is s own in section at l.
It will be understood that when the cement or concrete or other flooring material is set the centering-boxes andexpansible bar will be removed.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
1 A centering including joists made in two parts the free end of one overhanging the other laterally,'said parts adapted to be separated by a lateral movement.
2. A centering including a joist composed of parts and each having a lateral extension near its free end adapted to overhang the other and adapted to be separated from the other by a lateralmovement.
. 3. A centering including a joist composed of parts and each having a lateral extension near its free end adapted to overhang the other and adapted to be separated from the other by a lateral movement, and having an extension for supporting it at the beam end.
