' Laim Patent No. 83,379, dma october 27,1868.
IMPRCVED IRONING-TABLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the ealxxie.`
To all whom this 'ma/y concern Be it known that I, L. HARRINGTON, of Saugatuck, in the county of Allegan, and State of Michigan, have invented an Improved Table; and I do hereby declare thatthe following is a full, clear', and exact description of the construction of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of refer ence marked thereon, making a part. of this specificaq tion, in which- Figure l is a perspective representation of .my invention as used as a dining-table.
Figure 2, a representation of the same' as used as an ironing-table.
The present invention relates to an improvement in that class of folding tables which are designed to be used either for dining-room purposes, or changed into convenient forms for ironing clothes; and its nature consists in making the bed of the table in two or more parts, andsupporting those parts which are to unfold, in a novelmanner, as hereinafter shown.
To enable others skilled in the artto fully comprehend the construction and use of my invention, I have marked corresponding parts with similar letters, and will now proceed to give a detailed description.
A B O represent the top of the table, which is made in three parts, the part A being stationary, and fastened to the frame K in the usual manner. The folding part B is hinged to the part `A at D, and the part C is hinged to the part B at E; all of the parts being dowelled, as shown at f, fig. 2, to hold them in position when closed'. The narrow end of -the part B is held to the part A by a hook, d, iig. 2, fastened to the part A, and a staple or pin in the part B, and the part O is held to the part B by similar means. The folding parts B C, when open, have two supports, one consisting of a bearer, T, which is placed in a gain (inthe frame K) made diagonally with' the top of the table, audit1 bedrawn oirtfjgo)` i c, which is made in the top of the'legP when the folding parts are closed.
H represents a ilat-iron holder, which is made of any suitable metal, and it isfarranged to slide under the top part A, and `to .be removed when not. in use, and its outer end has a iiange, I, for holding the iron in place. The drawing at B B represents the holder as removed from the table, and x, in the drawing A A, represents the staple or loop which supports the holder, fastened to the under side of the part A.
The device, as shown, will be found very convenient for ironing-purposes, and especially adapted to holding large articles of clothing, for which ordinary tables are not suitable. The ironing is done on the part A, and the folding parts are used to support or hold the clothes in a suitable position.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
A folding table, made with a three-part top, A B C, in combination with flat-iron holder H I, hinged leg G, supporting a pivoted bearer, S, and bearer T, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
