Be it known that I, THOMAS C. BELDING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Di vision-Plates and Tablet- Holders; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact descrip tion of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a number of the division plates or guides and holders placed in a receptacle. Fig. 2 is a view showing a portion of one of the division plates or guides and illustrating the tabletholder connected thereto. Fig. 3 is a detached perspective view of the tablet-holder, showing the retaining-flanges bent at right angles to the holder proper. Fig. 4 is a view showing a portion of one of the division plates or guides and illustrating the tabletholder connected thereto, showing the opposite side of the holder from that illustrated in Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a view showing a portion of one of the division plates or guides and illustrating the tablet-holder connected thereto, which tablet-holder is a modification of the holders shown in the remaining figures. The present invention has relation to division-plates and tablet-holders adapted to facilitate the distribution and arrangement of documents such as checks, notes, and invoices and other papers that are commonly kept in files.

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the accompanying drawings, 1 represents a receptacle, which may be of any desired size or of any desired construction, inasmuch as the receptacle designed to contain the division or guide plates or tablet-holders forms no particular part of the present in vention, except that a receptacle of some kind is necessary to carry out the object of my invention. The division plates or guides 2 may of course be of any desired size, reference being had to their various uses and to the size of the receptacle into which they are to be placed, as illustratedin Fig. 1.

To the division-plates are attached the tablet-holders proper, which tablet-holders consist of the upward-extended open'part or portion 3 and the tongue 4, which is formed of a size to correspond substantially with the size and shape of the opening in the part 3.

For the purpose of providing a means for attaching the holder to the division plates or guides 2 the part 6 is provided, which part abuts against that portion of the division plate or guide 2 over which the part 6 extends or covers.

For the purpose of properly binding and assisting in holding the tablet-holder proper the flanges 7 are provided, which flanges are left integral at their top or upper ends at points above the lower portion of the opening in the part 3, or substantially so, the flanges 7 being cut at their lower portions in such a manner that the division plate or guide 2 can be set or'placed in the space formed by cutting the flanges 7. The flanges 7 are bent so that they will abut against the opposite face of the division-plate 2 from that of the part 6, so that a metal binding is provided upon both sides of the division plates or guides 2.

For the purpose of holding the tablet 8 in proper position to be exposed to view and prevent any accidental displacement thereof the part 3 is provided with the end and top flanges 9, which flanges are preferably located at right angles to the part 3, as best illustrated in Fig. 3.

For the purpose of providing for suitable elasticity in the tongue 4, so as to move it away from the part 3 for the purpose of inserting or removing the tablets 8, the slits 10 are provided, which slits are formed in. the part 6 and located substantially as shown in Fig. 2. It will be understood that the division plates or guides 2 are usually formed of cardboard, and for the purpose of decreasing the rigidity of thepart 6 at its upper portion the slots 11 are formed in said part 6, so that the extreme upper portion is free to follow the movement of the tongue 4 during the time said tongue is sprung away from the part 3; but I do not desire to be confined to the slots 11, owing to the fact that they simply allow the tongue to be more easily moved, and to that extent they are of advantags.

The slots 11 may be dispensed with, as

shown in the modified form, Fig. 5, which modified form has all of the advantages, except that the tongue 4 will not yield as readily when it is desired to place tablets in position or to remove them. Itwill be understood that the flanges 7 should be bent at the dotted lines 12, so as not to disturb the flanges 9, or, in other words, so as to leave said flanges at substantially right angles to the upward-extended part 3.

For the purpose of setting the tongue 4 at one side of the opening formed in the part 3, but adjacent thereto, the lower integral part of the tongue 4 is bent so as to bring said tongue in substantially the position illustrated in Fig. 7, by which arrangement the bottom or lower edge of the tablet 8 rests upon the flange 13, which flange is preferably seated upon the top edge of the division plate or guide 2. The holders proper are preferably secured. to plates or guides 2 by means of suitable eyelets 14, passed through the holes 15. However, the manner of attaching the holders does not form any particular part of the present invention, owing to the fact that many ways may be employed without departing from the nature of my invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A tablet-holder for division plates or guides, consisting of upper and lower parts, the upper part provided with tablet-retaining flanges at its ends and top and having an opening in said upper flanged part, a tongue located in a different plane from the opening in said upper flanged part of the tabletholder, flanges spaced from the lower part and united to the upper part, said flanges adapted to be bent against the face of the plate or guide opposite the face of the lower extended part of the holder, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. A tablet-holder for division plates or guides, consisting of upper and lower parts, the upper part provided with tablet-retaining flanges at its ends and top, and an opening, a tongue located in a different plane from the opening in the upper flanged part of the tablet-holder, flanges spaced from the lower part and united to the upper part adapted to be bent against the face of the plate or guide opposite the face of the lower extended part of the holder, said lower part provided with slits, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

3. A tablet-holder for division plates or guides, consisting of upper and lower parts,

the upper part provided with tablet-retaining flanges at its ends and top and an opening, an integral tongue located in a different plane from the opening in the upper flanged part of the tablet-holder, flanges spaced from the lower part and united to the upper part, said flanges adapted to be bent against the face of the plate or guide opposite the face of the lower extended part of the holder, said lower part provided with slits, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

4. A tablet-holder for division plates or guides provided with upper and lower parts, the upper part provided with an opening, means for holdinga tablet, the lower part of the holder provided with wings or flanges spaced therefrom and united to the upper part, and adapted to be bent and secured to the plate or guide, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
