MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 2, 1906.
Application led February 6, 1906. Serial No. 299,733.
T LZZ whom it Indy concern/.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM P. LooKn, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of fication.
The present invention relates to matchboXes of the so-called single-delivery form, more definitely defined as being constructed adapted to prevent the removal therefrom of more than one match at a time.
One object had in View is the provision of a novel and peculiar match-box of the character stated.
Furtherl objects reside in novel and peculiar means for supporting or holding the boX.
The invention consists of the special construction, arrangement, and combination of parts shown by the accompanying drawings and hereinafter fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a novel form of stand adapted for use with a withdrawnmatch-boX tray of common form. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 6 6 of Fig. 1, the trayholding arm not being shown; and Fig. 3 is a detail fragmentary sectional View taken on line 7 7 of Fig. 1.
, 'In the practice of my invention, I employ the tray N of a common form of match-box, substantially as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of my drawings. In Fig. 1 of my drawings I illustrate a novel form of stand designed for supporting the tray l It will be noticed that the stand is constructed with a base N, having a portion thereof cut away, leaving a suitable opening O. On the base N, I arrange a member P, having projecting longitudinal side flanges Q, the upper portion of said fianges being provided with inwardly-projecting barbs. The member P is substantially in the form of a plate adapted to serve as a cover or front for confining matches in the attached match-tray N. For securing the tray N in position against the cover or front plate P, I employ spring-arms S, having pivotal support K on opposite flanges Q of the cover P, constructing the arms adapted to receive the tray as shown by Fig. 2. The cover or front plate P is hinged to the base N through offset pivotal attachment at U to struck-up ears V on the base N. Through means of the construction just described the plate P may be turned down to the dotted position thereof illustrated in Fig. 1, and thereby facilitate the packing of several stands suitable for transportation purpose.
I provide an opening W in the plate P at the bottom thereof, as will be understood upon reference to Fig.v 1, and fashion same with lateral slots W. The opening W is designed to permit access to matches in the tray N and the withdrawal of one thereof at a time through the lateral slots Wl by simple use of a persons finger, the opening O in the base N facilitating the manipulation, as will be understood.
A vertical slot WI2 is made in the plate P, with the same leading into the opening W, as shown. The vertical slot W2 is designed for the insertion of a suitable device therethrough to straighten out disarranged matches in the tray N.
B2 B2 denote guarding-lips disposed standing in front of the lateral slots W in the plate P, the same being arranged about the thickness of a match in advance of said lateral slots. The object of the tongues B2 is to prevent free running of the matches through the slots W and at the same time insure the removal of only one match.
What I claim is- 1. The combination with a match-tray, of a cover having an opening therethrough, the opening being fashioned with lateral slot eX- tensions, and arms on the cover, adapted to extend under the bottom of the tray, the arms being arranged under tension, clamping the bottom of the tray, substantially as described.
2. In combination, a stand consisting of a suitable base, a plate having hinged attachment at its lower end to the base, the plate having an opening fashioned with lateral slot extensions, a suitable tray, and means adapted for securing the tray against the hinged plate, substantially as described.
3. In combination, a suitable base, a standing plate on the base, side flanges on the plate, the plate being constructed with an opening at its lower end, and the opening fashioned with lateral slot extensions, a suite able tray, and spring-arms adapted for clampedly supporting the tray against said plate, substantially as described.
WILLIAM P. LOCKE.
