Description

IMPROVED SHAWL-STRAP.
dige .tlgehnn rtferreh in in tlgesc etttr atent mtb making @att if the sans.
T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE CROUCH, of the city, copnty, and State of New York, have invented, made,
and applied to use, certain Improvements in the Construction and Operation of Shawl-Straps; and Ido declare the following to be a full, clear, and correct description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of' this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure l is a front view of my improvel shawl-strap. Figure 2 is a out section ofthe same. l In the drawings, like pants ofthe invention are pointed out by the same letten: of reference.
The nature of the preselitrvention consists in certain improvements, as more fully hereinafter set forth in the construction and operation of shawl-straps.
To enable those skilled' in the arts to make and use my invention, I will describe the construction and-v operation of the same.
A shows the cross-piece of my improved shawl-strap, to which are attached the handle B and ]oops-C,' through which loops are passed the straps D, intended to receive and hold the shawl orother garment to be carried.
This cross-piece A has heretofore been composed entirely of leather, and when placed in position upon ,the
upper side of the shawl or other garment, would not retain a horizontal position, owing to its being easily doubled up or bentout of position. To compel this cross-piece A to retain a horizontal position above the shawl or other garment held by the straps D, is the object of' theipresent invention, and this is effected by combining with the cross-piece Anthe plates of corrugated metal, a, applied, as clearly shown in fig. 2 ofthe drawings, upon the upper side ofthe cross-piece A. y
I prefer thc use of corrugated metal, as it a'ords sufficient strength for the purpose intended, without mate- V rially increasing the weight of thc strap.
These plates ait is intended shall extend entirely across the cross-piece IA, and be protected by a covering.
oi' leather or other material. Y v
Thus it will be seen that when the shawl or garment has been secured within the straps D, the piece Awill necessarily retain'its position, keeping the bundle in shape, and enabling its being more easily transported,
from its compactness. V
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In combination with a rigid cross-piece, A, constructed substantially ns described, the handle B and straps D, for the purposes indicated.
A GEO. CROUCH.
