Description

wit-bld ctgstent/f Gtiiiiirt.
Letters Patent No. 97 ,401., dated liove'mber 30, 1869.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To qll-whom it 'may concern.:
Be it known that I, CHARLES H. House, of Astoria, in the county of Glatsop, and State of Oregon, have lfi'nreuxted a new and useful' Improvement in` SinchV or Belly-Band Fastener for Riding and Paclr-Sinldles;
and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and vexact description thereof, which' will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference heilig had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which-- Figure 1 is a front view of my improved fastener'.
`Figure 2 is adetail sectional View; of the same, taken through the line x tig. 1..
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts My invention has for its object to furnish an improved ,fastener for sinching up yriding and pack-saddie-s,` which shall be simple in construction, and convenient andeective in use; and
It consists in the fastener, constructed as hereinafter more fully described. l Arepresents the upper ring or part of the fastener, which is fastened to the saddle by a strap passing around the upper part of the ring A, or by other conrenient means.` Y
The ring A is made with a cross-har or arm,.B, which is made with au offset or loop, b', to receivethe strap Osaid.offset or loop b' being providedwith `a i roller to protect the strap from wear wh'en being used.
Dis the lower ring or part of the fastener, which may be made in the form of a ring, but which I prefer to make -in the forni of ahalf ring, as shown in fig. 1.
' The cross-arm or straight side E of the paift D is made with an offset or loop, c', to receive the strap C, said-loop or offset being provided with a roller to protcct the said strap from wear.
F is the catch for holding the strap or lattigo C when the saddle is sinched up, which is pivoted tothe crossbar or side E of the part D, ator about the lower an- Y gies of said bar or side.
The upper edge of the catchF is grooved, to col-, respond with the bar E, to enable it to grasp and hold the strap U more firmly.
Thelower part or lip, f', of the catch F is made broad and heavy, to hold the said catch firmly against the strap C, and also for convenienceI in loosening the said catch in nnsinchiug the saddle.
If desired, the catch F may be pivoted to another cross-har, crossing the part 1) below the bar E, but I prefer the construction first described, as' being simpler and equally effective.
In sinching up the saddle, the free end ofthe strap or iattigo (5,*the other end of which is secured to the lower part of the upper ring A, is passed through the loop or oiiset of the lower part D E, from the inside.
' 1t is then passed through the loop or offset of the' upper part- A B, from the outside, and again through the loop or offset of the lower part l) E, from the inside, and the catch F f holds it securely, thus furnishing a neat, simple, convenient, reliable, andv effective sinchv or belly-band fastener.
Having thus described `my invention,
fi' claim new, and desire to secure by Letters 1at eut 4 An improved sinch or belly-band fastener, A, B, D, E, F, constructed and operating in connection with the strap or iattigo C, substantially as' herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth."
