Be it known that I, EDWIN BERTRAM PIKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pike, in the county of Grafton, State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in a Combined Whetstone, Blotter, and Paper-Weight; and I do I hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention relates to a new article of manufacture which can be conveniently used as a whetstone for sharpening knives and other edged tools, as a blotter, and as a paper-weight, and is also well adapted for advertising purposes.
The invention consists, briefly, of a whetstone, acting also as a handle and aweight secured u on a blotting-pad, substantially as hereina ter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specificacular form, so that the Whetstone will have a steady base and will conveniently serve for sharpenin knives and other edged implements. T e Whetstone Will also serve as a convenient handle for manipulating the blotting-pad 12, and by its Weight and that of the cover 11 superimposed uponsaid blottin -pad it will serve in combination there- Wit as a very simple and efficient paper- Weight.
The blotting-pad 12 is by preference composed of a number of superimposed sheets of blotting-paper secured together by means of a fastener 13, passing through several sheets.
In a central recess 14: in the under side of the Whetstone 10 is secured a headed screw 15, which is fitted to screw detachably into a nut 16, secured upon the top of the blottingpad 12, so that when the under sheet of blotting-paper is used up it can be easily removed and a fresh sheet uncovered for use, and when all the blottin -sheets 'are used a new pad may be easily su stituted.
The upper side of the cover 11 may, as shown, be overlaid with a label 17 for advertisements, &c.
' Having thus set forth the nature of my invention and the manner in which I carry the same into practice, I claim as my invention 1. The combination, with a pad of superimposed flat blotting-sheets, a fastener pass ing through the superimposed blottingsheets, a stiff cover secured on top of said blotting-pad, and a combined Whetstone, weight and handle secured upon said stiff cover, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with a Whetstone and a stifi cover secured to the under side thereof, of a screw fitted to the Whetstone and a blottin -pad having a nut fixed thereon into whic the screw is fitted detachably, substantially as described. I
