Description

'PATENTED JUNE 19, 1906.
A T. SMITH.
HAME TUG.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 29. 1905.
was ."sTATEs PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED J. SMITH, OF MAUOH CHUNK, PENNSYLVANIA.
' HAM E-TUGj.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 29, 1905. Serial No. 267,644.
Patented. J'une 1 9,1906.
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED J. SMITH, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Mauch Chunk, in the county of Carbon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in I-Iame-Tugs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to hame-tugs, and has for its object to provide a tug which can be made on a sewing-machine by a mechanic possessing less skill than is necessary to make the present forms of tugs.
It is a further object of my invention to produce a tug having one end of the glip extending therethrough to a point adjacent to the buckle, thereby preventing the breaking of the. tug, which is so common inthe tugs now in use, Where the glip extends but part way through.
'With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanyiiig drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may bemade within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal cross-section of my improved tug. Fig. 2 is a top view of a modification.
Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate corresponding arts throughout both views, 1 and 2 are the eather straps which form the body portion of the tug. These straps are stitched together at their outer edges and are provided with two parallel rows of stitching, running longitudinally thereof, sufliciently distant from each other to form a pocket for the long member 3 of glip 4. The body portion is provided withanopening 5 in the end opposite the glip. A buckle 6 is secured to the .end of a strap 7, which is sewed on the face of the body portion,- the buckle being located in .front of opening 5. Passing through holes in straps 1, 2, and 7 and the long member 3 of glip 4 are tworivets 8 and 9, which-also pass through the ends of a leather piece 10, to which loops 11 are secured, the function of these loops being to retain the end of the trace when it is buckled to the glip. This loop portion being completed before it is se-. cured to the tug enables the tug to be made on a machine, which is not possible with tugs as constructed at present. a
In Fig. 2 a modification is shown differing from the form illustrated in Fig. 1 in that the box-loop 11" is secured to the glip by a metal plate 11 which extends through the loop and is held in position by rivets 9 passing through holes in its ends.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as novel, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A hame-tug comprising a glip, said glip having an elongated body portion, an eye formed at one end of said glip and a short arm extending from said eye; a pair of leather.
ends being secured to each other and having a trace-receiving opening formed there- -through, a buckle-carrying strap which is stitched to one of the leather covering members and extends substantially to the front end of the tug, the short arm of the glip being adapted to clamp the front end of the strap upon the covering member to which said strap is stitched, fastening devices which pass through both of the covering members, the glip and the buckle-carrying strap, and a buckle carried by said strap and overlying the opening formed through the coverin members.
2. AIiame-tug comprising a glip, said glip having an elongated body portion, an eye formed at one end of said glip and a short arm extending from said eye a pair of leather covering members one of which lies upon each side of the elongated portion of the glip, the rear end of each of said covering members extending beyond the glip, said ends being secured to each other and having a trace-receiving opening formed therethrough, a buckle-carrying strap which is stitched to one of the leather covering members and extends substantially to the front end of the tug, the short arm of the glip being adapted to clamp the front end of the strap upon the covering member to which said strap is stitched, fasbers and the glip by fastening-rivets or the tening devices which pass through both of like. the covering members, the glip and the buc- In testimony whereof I aflix my signature kle-carrying strap, a buckle carried by said in presence of two witnesses. 5 strap and overlying the opening formed ALFRED J SMITH.
