Description
No. 822,254. I PATENTED JUNE 5, 1906. J. ELLIOTT.
TERRA GOTTA TILE WELL. APPLICATION FILED Nov. 13, 1905.
, rTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J' une 5, 1906.
Application filed November 13, 1905. Serial No. 287.069.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES ELLIOTT, acitizenof the United States, residing at Melville, in the lcounty of Suffolk and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Terra- Cotta-Tile lVVll, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to terracotta-tile wells, and more particularly to an attachment used in connection with the bottom tile, the object being to provide a firm, solid, and4 even foundation for the tile-well; and with this object' in view the invention consists, essentially, of a perforated cast-iron bottom provided with means for attaching it to thellower'section of tile. i
The invention consists also in certain detailsfof construction and novelties of combination, all of which will be fully described inverted perspective view-showing the lower.-
end of the lower section of tile. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the perforated bottom; and ig. 4 is avertical sectional view of the said bottom, fastenin means, and lower end 'of the lower'section o tile.
In carryin out my invention I employ a terra-cotta ti e A, which is preferably constructed with vertically-elongated slots A', and adjacent the lower end of this tile-section andupon the exterior thereof are produced the indentations or depressions A2,' the bottom edges of which are flat and horizontal. The tile-section A is the lowest or bottom section of the well, and in order to prevent breakage of the said tile and also to provide afirmand level foundation for the same I propose to attach a perforated cast-iron bottom B to the lower end of the Said tile-section, and this I accom-y A plish by riveting a galvanized-iron band C to the upper edge of the bottom B, said band projecting a considerable distance vabove the said upper ed e, and the lower end'of the tile,
sectionA is a apted to fit down into this band, and the band is preferably constructed with upwardly-extending Vears or lugs C', which are adapted tobe pressed Idown into the depressions or indentations A2, as most clearly shown in Fig. 4, thereby securely connecting the bottom section of tile to the perforated cast-iron bottom. The -cast-iron bottom is preferably made bell-shaped or flaring at the bottom; but this construction is not absolutely necessary. v
Having thus fully described lmy invention, what I claim as new, and'd'e'sire to lSecure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a terra-cotta-tile well the combination with a terra-.cotta tile, of the perforated Vmetallic botto1,'and the metal band for connecting the said bottom and tile, as set forth.
2. In a terra-cotta-tile well the combination with a tile-section, having exterior indentations, of the perforated cast-iron bottom, and the galvanized-iron ring fastened to the perforatedbottom, and provided with ears ada ted to be brought into engagement with the mdentations in the tile, substantially as set forth. l
JAMES ELLIOTT. Witnesses:
