Description

PATENTED APR. 4
J. H. FOSTER. STOVEPIPE, FLUE, AND SMOKE STACK PROTE GTOR.
[nae/Lib]? Patented April 4, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES HARVEY FOSTER, OF ARLIE, TEXAS.
STOVEPIPE, FLUE, AND SMOKE-STACK PROTECTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 786,555, dated April 4, 1905 Application filed July 11, 1904. Serial No. 216,186.
To (DZ/Z whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J AMES HARVEY FOSTER, of the town of Arlie, county of Ohildress, State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Stovepipe, Flue, and Smoke-Stack Protectors, which improvement is fully set forth in this specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
The object of my invention is to prevent rain from running down on the inside of the stovepipe, flue, or smoke-stack to protect them from rusting and to keep them dry, thereby greatly promoting the draft, which is essen: tial to all heating devices having pipes, fines, or smoke-stacks.
The inolosed drawing is a vertical sectional View of my device, having letters to designate the various parts, which form a part of this specification.
a represents avertical cylinder having openings at e e. Said openings are made by horizontal cuts, with the lower edges bent in.
f designates an auger-shaped spiral with its out edges turned up, having an inverted- V shape at its lower end, with the lower inner edges turned up, so as to form a trough, through which the water is carried out through the openings 0 c.
g is a thimble'with its top edge turned out and its lower edge turned in. It is placed in top end of cylinder a, causing the water to fall on the spiral f.
1 claim as my invention- 1. In combination, a vertical flue having openings therein an anger-shaped spiral located within said flue, and provided with flanges along the edges thereof which communicate with the said openings, substantially as described.
2. In combination a vertical flue, a flanged auger-shaped spiral thereimand a thimble provided with an inturned flange at the bottom thereof placed within the top of said flue above said spiral substantially as described.
3. In combination a vertical flue provided with openings near the bottom thereof, a flanged auger-shaped spiral located within said fine and communicating with said openings, a thimble provided with an inturned flange at its lower end located in the top of said flue and above said spiral, substantially as described.
JAMES HARVEY FOSTER.
