Description

J. S. LEHMAN.
BagHol der and Truck. No,- 82,132. Patented Sept. 15,1868.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONOERN:
Be ittknown that I, JOSEPH S. LEHMAN, of Mount l oy, in'thecounty of Lancaster, and State of Penusyh Vania, have invented a simplified Mode of Constructing the Jaws and Holder or Arms for a Bag-Holder and Truck combined, being deemed an improvement on my patent, No. 74,232, dated February 11, 1868; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to letters of reference being marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view.
Figure 2 is a view of the truck as it appears elevated without the bag.
Figure 3 is a view of the angular frame and slottedjaws as they appear removedtfrom the truck.
The nature of my invention consists in giving an extra bend to the continuous arms or'holder, so as to form a short right angle, as seen at W, with bevelled sides, in order to slide into and be held by the dove-tailed 5101;, made on the inner side of each jaw, thereby doing away with the screw-rod, which latter constitutes a part of my combination claim of the former patent.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement, it is only necessary to say that fig. 3.
shows the short bend of my arms, held in the dove-tailed slots on the inner side of myjaws B, with the springs attached. The outer box or flanges on the jaws for embracing the frame of the truck, designated by the dotted lines, said jaws being similar as previously made, differing, however, in the position of the dove-tailed slot, for the reception of the extra short angle on the arms or holder 0', and thereby dispensing with.the use of the screw-rod and the female screw in the one jaw, and corresponding step or hearing for the rod in the other; and, while it is found on actual experiment to be equally efficient, more simple, and consequently cheaper, it
is deemed to contain the elements of an improvement;
I, however, do not broadly claim the flanged jaws with their spring and dove-tail slots, with a simple angular frame, in combination with a screw-rod applied to a truck, as in my former patent; but
i What I claim as my improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The holder 0, constructed as described, and having a short angle, W, with bevelled sides, so as to fit into dove-tailed slots in the jaws B, all arranged and operated substantially as specified and shown.
