Description
H. H. GILLETT, OF WARSAW, MISSOURI.
Letters .Patent No. 82,107,' dateol September 15, 1868.
IMPROVED MILL-PICK.
tige 5:11am referrer in in there etters rtnt uur making part nf the rame.
'lO ALL 'WHOMJT MAY CON CERN Be it known that I, H. H. GILLETT, of Warsaw, in the county of Benton, and in the State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mill-Picks and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beingl had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. v
The nature of my invention consists in the application of glass tothe handle of a mill-pick, protecting the eyes and face of the operator from any particles of rock flying up, and at the same time allowing him 01 enabling him to see his work'better than he possibly could with the use of glasses-or goggles.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, which form a part of this specification.
A represents a handle, to which the mill-pick B is attached in any of the known and usual ways.
The forward part of the handle A, near where the pick B is fastened, is provided with'a hole through the same, said hole to be of any shape or dimensionsdesired.
A piece of glass, C, is inserted in this hole, thereby eiectually shielding the operators eyes and facefrom the flying particles of glass, the handle A, of course, being at its forward end as broad as may be desired, t0 give any size of glass. v
Any kind of glass may be used, whether common window-glass, magnifying-glass, Svc., whichever may best suit the operator.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A mill-pick handle, constructed as described, and provided with glass, enabling the operator to `see his work, as well as'shielding him from any particles of rock iiying about, as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand, this 22d day of June, 1868.
l H. H. GILLETT.
