Description

PATENTED MAY 22 1906.
G E.. PRESCOTT.
LUG STRAP FASTENER FOR LOOM PIGKBR STICKS.
APPLIOATICN FILED APR. 19, 1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIO GEORGE E. PRESCOTT, OF SKOWHEGAN, MAINE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- FOURTH TO CLYDE H. SMITH AND ONE-FOURTH TO BLIN W. PAGE,
OF SKOWHEGAN, MAINE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 22, 1906.
Application filed April 19,1905. Serial No. 256,337.
The present invention relates tolooms, and
more particularly to the fastening means whereby the lug-strap is secured to the pickerstick.
The object. of the invention is to provide fastening means which will permit the lugstrap to be readily adjusted on the pickerstick without injury to the latter; and to this end the invention consists in certain novel features of construction hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure 1 is an elevation of the invention, only so much of the loom being shown as will suffice to show the connection of the invention therewith. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 5 denotes the lay-beam, 6, the picker-stick; 7, the shaft carrying the arm 8, which is connected by a link 9 and lug-strap 10 with the picker-stick and actuates the latter. The strap 10 extends around the picker-stick and between lugs 11, formed on a block 12, which is fitted on the back of the stick. The block is adjustably secured to the stick by a clip to be described.
The clip comprises plates 13 and 14, respectively, which are on opposite sides of the picker-stick and are joined by stems 15. A
rod 16 extends across the face of the block 12 and has its outer ends bent to form eyes 17, through which the stems 15 pass. The block is grooved to receive the rod, and a plate 18, fastened to the block and extending across the groove, secures the rod 16. A set-screw 19 is threaded through the plate 13 and bears on the plate 18. When the set-screw is tightened, the block 12 will be tightly clamped to the picker-stick. Upon loosening the setscrew the block can be readily shifted to another position on the picker-stick. A jamnut 20 is provided for locking the set-screw.
It will be seen that this clamping device op.- erates without injury to the picker-stick. When the lug-strap is fastened to the pickerstick by the usual loop-strap (which is secured to the picker-stick by screws) and it is desired to change the position of the lug strap, it is necessary to take out the screws to unfasten the loop-strap. Frequent changes in the adjustment result in injury to the picker-stick by reason of the number of holes made by the screw and which at times causes the picker-stick tosplit. This difliculty is entirely avoided by the use of this invention, and the desired adjustment can be readily and expeditiously made. No special loom construction is required and the device can be applied to any ordinary picker-stick.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with a picker-stick and its lug-strap; of a block on the pickerstick around which block the lug-strap passes; plates on opposite sides of the picker-stick; stems connecting said plates; a rod secured to and extending across the face of the block, and having its outer ends bent to form eyes through which the stems pass; and a clamping-screw threaded through one of the aforesaid plates and bearing on the block.
2. The combination with a picker-stick and its lug-strap; of a block on the pickerstick around which block the lug-strap passes, and said block having a groove extending across its face;-a rod extending through the groove and having its outer ends extending beyond the block and formed with eyes; plates on opposite sides of the picker-stick; stems connecting said plates and extending through the aforesaid eyes a clamping-screw threaded through one of the aforesaid plates; and a plate on the block over the groove on which plate the clamping-screw bears.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
