To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, WILLIAM H. DIS- MUKE and THOMAS C. STEWART, citizens of the United States, residing at Phoenix, in the county of Lee and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lug-Straps for Looms; and We do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in lug straps for looms.

One object of the invention is to provide a lug strap formed of metal and having its parts connected together by a knuckle joint which greatly facilitates the operation and increases the efliciency of the strap.

Another object is to provide an improved construction of adjustable connection between the strap and picker stick.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of a portion of a pick lever arm and a picker stick showing our improved lug strap applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the strap showing the pick lever arm and the picker stick in horizontal section; Fig. 3 is a vertical section through the picker stick and the adjacent parts of the strap.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes the pick lever arm which may be of the usual or any desired construct-ion, and 2 denotes the picker stick which is connected at its lower end to the loom in the usual or any desired manner. Our improved strap comprises a link 3 which is in the form of a metal rod or bar and is pivotally connected at one end to a casting 4 in which is formed a vertically disposed passage 5 whereby the same is engaged with the pick lever arm 1 to which it is adjustably secured by a set screw 4. The casting 4: is provided on one end with a pair of apertured lugs 6 between which is pivoted one end of the link 3, said end having formed therein an eye 7 with which is engaged a pivot bolt 8 which is inserted through the apertures in the lugs 6 of the casting. The

opposite end of the link 3 is flattened and has formed therein an eye 9, said eye being disposed in a horizontal plane or at right angles to the eye 7 in the opposite end of the link. The flattened end of the link containing the eye 9 is pivotally connected by a bolt 10 with an apertured lug 11 formed on the clamping plate 12, which forms one member of a clip 13, the opposite member of which is in the form of a yoke or bale 14 which is engaged with the picker stick as shown. The ends of the bale or yoke 14: are threaded and are engaged with apertures formed in the clamping plate 12 and on said threaded ends are screwed fastening nuts 15 and 16, which are adapted to be screwed up into engagement with the outer and inner sides of the plate 12, thereby adj ustably securing said plate to the ends of the yoke.

The looped end of the bale or yoke is engaged with a hold up strap or hanger 17, which is preferably formed of heavy leather and on the looped end of the yoke between the lower portion of the hold-up strap and said end is arrai'iged a cushioning washer 18, which is preferably formed of sole leather. The upper end of the hold-up strap or hanger is secured by a screw 19 or other suitable fastening device to the lower end of an adjustable picker stick connection which comprises a channel-shaped stick engaging plate 20 which is slidably engaged with the outer edge of the picker stick and has formed in its upper portion a longitudinally disposed slot 21 on each side of which is arranged a vertical row of rack teeth 22. WVith the rack teeth and outer side of the plate 20 is adapted to be engaged a toothed pawl or clamping plate 23 in which is formed a centrally disposed screw hole, through which is inserted a clamping screw 24: which is adapted to be screwed into the outer edge of the picker stick, thereby drawing the toothed inner surface of the clamping plate into engagement with the teeth on the outer side of the connecting plate, there by securely clamping the same against the picker stick. By loosening the screw 24 and disengaging the teeth of the pawl or plate 23 from the teeth on the connecting plate, the latter may be adjusted up or down on the picker stick to regulate the position of the strap after which the screw is again tightened to bring the pawl or plate into clamping en agement with the connecting plate. It wil thus be seen that by means of the adjustably mounted connecting plate to which the hold-up strap is secured, the position of the lug strap may be adjusted and the throw of the picker stick thus regulated or controlled.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:

A lug strap for looms comprising a casting, means to adjustably secure said casting to the pick lever arm of the loom, a picker stick, a stick engaging clamp havin an extended apertured lug thereon, a connecting link between said clamp and casting, said link having formed at its opposite ends angularly disposed eyes, ayoke adjustably secured upon said clamp, a hold-up strap secured to the said yoke, a connecting plate secured to the upper end of said hold-up strap, said plate having formed thereon a series of rack teeth, a toothed pawl carried by the picker stick and adapted to be clamped into engagement with "the toothed surface of said connecting plate whereby the latter is adjustably secured to the picker stick to support the hold-up strap.
