CLOTH ES-PROPn Specification of Letters Patent.
7 Application filed October 7,1905- flerial lilo. 281,788-
Patented May 18, 1906.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, VALENTINE I-IEIsEE, a.
" citizen of the United States, residin at ()rwigsbur in the county of Schuy '11 and State of ennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Im rovemen'ts in Clothes- Props; and I do here y declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the'art to which it appertains to make and use the same. A
My invention relates to clothes-props in which overlapping members are secured together against lateral displacement in the ongitudinal extension of the rop, hasfor its object means for securing t e extensible member in any desired position by the weight restmg on the pole, and consists in certain improvements in construction, which will be lul disclosed in the following specification an claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, Figure 1 is'a perspective or a clothes-prop embodying my invention; Fig. 2, a side elevation,.and Fig.
3 a transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.
Reference be had to the drawin s and the designating c aracters thereon, the numeral 1 indicates the lower member of the structure; 2 the u per member adjustable longitudinally on t e first-member; 3, a metallic loop secured to the lower end of the member 2 and surrounding the member 1, and 4 4 like-loopssecured to the member 1 and surrounding the member 2. These loops admit of free longitudinal movement of the member 2 on the member 1, but prevent an lateral displacement of'one member with re erence to the other in the adjustment of the member 2. V
5 is a lever having arms 6' 6 pivotally secured to the member 1 at 7 7, and each arm is provided with an elongated slot or opening 8 8 to receive the trunnions 9 9 of a roller 10, which is supported by said arms, and 11 is a recess in the inner face of the member 1 and is rovided with'an inclined surface 12 on whichthe roller bites or engages on one-side,
. while the opposite side engages the inner or,
any desired ber adjusta lateral displacement; in combination WIlJh-B,
' It is. obvious that the locking device may be applied'to other devices in which there are overlapping and longitudinally-adjustable mem ers without de arting from the spirit or sco e of my invention.
Having t us fully described my invention, what I claim isg 1. A supporting member and a like mem- 1e thereon, and secured against revoluble member between the supporting members and attached to a member pivotally connected to one of said supporting members. 2. A supporting member and alike member adjustable thereon, secured against lateral displacement, and havin .a recess in its inner face; in combination with a revolublemember in said recess, and a lever supporting said revoiuble member and pivo tally secure to one of said supportingpnembers. V A
3. A supporting mem er and a like mem ber adjustable thereon, means for securing said members against lateral displacement, a recess havin an inclined wall'and extending across one 0 said members, a revoluble mem-- ber in said recess, anda lever having arms pivotally cennected to one of the supporting members and provided with slots in whicn said revoluble member is sus ended.
In testimony whereof I a 1x my signature in presence of two witnesses.
VALENTINE .HEISER.
