Description

PATENTED MAY 15, 1906.
APPLICATION FILED JULYZB, 1905.
m m H w WILLIAM R. HAMMOND, OF ATLANTA, GEORGIA.
CIGAR AND CIGARETTE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 15, 1906.
Application filed July 28,1905- Serial No. 271.643.
1'0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I,WILLIAM R. HAMMOND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar and Cigarette Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
M invention relates to an improvement in com ined cigar and cigarette holders which is intended to provide a reversible clip or holder made of a single piece of wire and in which the holder for the cigar serves as a convenient handle for the cigarette-holder while in use, and vice versa. A device of this kind is desirable not only to prevent the fingers from being burned when the cigar or cigarette is nearly consumed, but also to prevent the fingers from becoming stained with the tobacco or the smoke therefrom.
My invention will be understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which the same parts are indicated by the same letters throughout the several views.
Figure 1 shows in elevation one form of holder constructed according to my invention. Fig. 2 shows the holder of Fig. 1 em' ployed in holding a cigarette. Fig. 3 shows the holder of Fig. 1 employed in holding a cigar, and Fig. 4 represents a modified form of holder constructed according to my invention.
Referring first to Figs. 1 to 3, A represents a single piece of resilient wire or a strip of metal having its ends bent over to form two obversely-disposed clips a and a, one clip a being preferably slightly smaller than the other, so as to hold a cigarette, and the larger clip a being adapted to hold a cigar.
In Fig. 2 .the cigarette B is shown held in the clip a, and the clip a, is shown as held between the fingers and serves as a convenient handle for the holder. In Fig. 3 the cigar C is shown held in the clip a, and the clip a is held between the fingers and serves as a convenient handle. In Fig. 4 the holder A is generally similar to the holder A, (shown in Figs. 1 to 3,) except that the clips a and a have their free ends inclined at an angle toward each other, instead of being parallel, as indicated in Fig. 1. The operation of the device is otherwise precisely similar to that of Fig. 1.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
Acombined cigar and cigarette holder, consisting of a single piece of resilient metal hav ing its ends bent to form two U-shaped loops of different size, the smaller loop being adapt.- ed toserve as a cigarette-holder, and the loop not in use being adapted to serve as a handle for the implement, substantially as described,
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM R. HAMMOND.
