UNITED STATES PATENT .FFICE S. L. HQCKERT, OF MILWAUKEE, WISOON SIN, ASSIGNOR TO G. IV. PER-EINE,
.OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVED ABDOMINAL SUPPORTIER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 822,001, dated September B, 1868.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, S. L. HOCKERT, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State 4of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful' Improvement in Abdominal Supporters and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, refaccompanying draw- Figure lis a perspective view ot' the apparatus Fig. 2 is a perspective view of one of the side pads. Fig. 3 is .a sectional View of one of the back pads. Fig. 4 is a side elevation ot' one-end of the front pad, showing the hook-connection. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of 'back pads, showing thel strap.
n My invention relates to an .improvement in the manner of constructing trusses and abdominal supporters, by means of which ease and simplicity of construction are attained, and
at the same time a more perfect adaptationto the body and ease and comfort to the wearer are effected. A o
In order that others :may understand the construction and operation of my improvement, I will proceed to particularly describe it. A represents the abdominal pad, made in the usual'manner and form, having at proper places, near each end, a metal stud secured, in the center of which `is a hook, a, of wire, 'of sufficient size to receive the end of the springwires B B. These spring-wires B B are of steel, and bent in such shape as will 4best conform to the surface of the body at those parts which. they surround, and the ends attached to the pad A are made thin, and have a hole This manner of connection forms the most perfeet joint, and allows the severalA parts to conform exactly to the surface of the body.' and allows the apparatus to be taken o and pnt on without bending the springs B B. The
other endsof the springs B B have a screw-4 screw-thread on the wire Il.
The outer parts of the studs b b are so made as to serve for buttons, over which the short leather strap G is placed when the apparatus is worn on the body.
These back pads are round, of suitable size,
and constructed in the same manner as the front pad A. The wire springs B B are covered with thin rubber, making them easier to the wearer, and-sliding on these springs are the hippads D D, capable of being moved to anyposition on the wires B B, so that an undue press ure on any particular part may be avoided. These pads D D are attached to the Wires B-B by staplesF7 which surround said wires', and adapt themselves, from their freedom of inotion, to any part of the body over which they y may be placed.
' Having thus. described my invention. and its'operation, what I claim as new is- 1. Connecting the side springs to the front pad by hooks, in the manner shown. 2. lThe side or hip pads D, attachedloosely to the cylindrical side springs B B by staples f y F, so that said pads may be perfectly free to move in any direction to adapt themselves to the surface oi' the body.
3. Securing the cylindrical side springs to 'the back pads by screwing 4the ends et' said, springs into the button-studs, in the manner shown.
' S. L. HOCKERT.
