TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GUNDER E. HAMMER, of Rochester, in the county of Olmsted, and State of Minnesota, have invented a new and improved Stove-Pipe Safe; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same,.rcference i being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
. The object of this invention is to provide a ready means of access to the air-chamber of that class of stovepipe safes which are constructed of sheet metal in two parts, having an air-chamber between, and provided with openings for the passage of air through the said chamber.
It consists in constructing one or both ends of twotparts, and hinging'one of the said parts to the cylindrical portion, as will be more fully described on reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein 1 Figure 1 represents a vertical section of a safe provided with my improvement, and
Figure 2 represents a horizontal section of the same on the line a: a: of fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the outer cylinder, and B the inner one, between which itis desirable to induce a circulation of air, which is accomplished by means of the holes D in the ends of the safe.
The said air-chambers are liable to accumulate considerable dust and other light material, which is com bustible, and it is highly important to have a ready means of access thereto for the purpose of cleaning them.
To this end I construct either one or both the ends of the safe of two parts, Fand E, and hinge one part to the outer cylinder, and provide it with suitable means for holding it closed, as clearly shownin fig. 2.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentlhe stove-pipe safe, as constructed, of the inner cylinder B outer cylindrical casing A, and perforated heads, the lower head being made in two parts, one of which is fixed to the cylinders A B, while the other, E, is hinged to the outer cylinder, and provided with fastening-devices, as herein shown and described, for the purpose specified.
GUNDER E. HAMMER.
