I SAsH-PULLEY.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented April 17, 1906.
Application filed October 24, 1905- .Serial No. 284,258.
To (LU whom, it may concern:
Be it known that we, MARION H. BALLEW and REUBEN A. MEAD, citizens of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvementsl in` Sash-Pulleys, of which the following is a speciication.
Our invention relates to sash-pulleys, and has for its object to provide a device of that character having downwardl -eXtended tubular guideways adapted to 't into holes in the window-frame provided for that purpose and serve as members for securing the sashpulley in applied position.
Another object of our invention is to so apply the sash-pulley to the window-frame that the strain on the sides of the frame is equalized.
The invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of arts more fully hereinafter described, claime and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, which disclose the preferred form of our invention, and in which- Figure l is a view in front elevation of our sash-pulley in applied position. Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional View of the pulley and casing. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2 looking in the direction indicated by the arrow. Fig. 4 is a bottom plan view.
Referring to the drawings by referencenumerals, similar numerals designating the same parts in the different views, 1 is the casing or housing formed in oval or crown shape and made from two separate pieces welded or riveted together and provided with a base or bottom members 4 and laterally-extendedl flanges 5, having holes countersunk therein for the reception of screws or other means for securing the casing to the window-frame,
said flanges 5 extending entirely around the.
casing. Between the sides of the casing 1 the pulley-wheel 2 of the usual structure is journaled tothe shaft 3,which passes through the sides and is secured thereto by having its ends upset, said shaft likewise serving to hold the two parts of the casing in fixed position. Integral with the base-plate 4 and lo- -Journaled in the sides of the casing, su
are at fault in that there is a tendency of the rope to buckle when the window is raised with any suddenness. This tendency we aim to obviate by having the bottom plate 4 of our pulley conform with the periphery of the ulley-wheel 2 and grooved at the ends to allne with the rope, thereby forming vertical flanges or ro e-guards 7. on the under sidesof the whee and making one complete walled passage for the sash-rope.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and mode of operation of the invention will be understood without a further extended description.
Changes'in the form, proportions, and minor details of construction may be made within the scope of the invention without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages thereof.
Having thus described the invention, what we claim is j 1. In a device of the character set forth, a casing provided with tubular projecting guideways, a rope-guard and a pulley journaled in the sides o the casing, substantially as set forth.
2. In a device of the character set forth,
a casing provided with tubular projecting guideways, rope-guards, flanges and a 1pulley stantially as set forth. y
In witness that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto subscribed our names this 6th day of July, 1905.
