Description
W. M. GRISCUM.
Sash-Cord Guides.
Patented Dec. 23,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.,
VILLIAM M. GRISOOM, OF READING, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO READING HARDWARE MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SASH-C-ORD GUIDES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 145,863, dated December 23, 1873 application filed August 23, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM M; GEIsooM, of Reading, Berks county and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improved Window- Pulley, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to an improvement in l the class of pulleys commonly let into windowframes for the guidance of the cords attached to the sashes and balancing-weights, the object of my invention being to economize and facilitate the construction of such pulleys.
I attain this object in the manner best observed in the perspective view, Figure l, and edge View, Fig. 2, of the accompanying drawing, by constructing` the casing of the pulley with two side plates or cheek-pieces, AA, and two end pieces, B B, the latter being adapted to and held in place partly by the said cheekpieces and partly by the connecting-rivets a a, as shown. The side plates or cheek-pieces A A are cast separately, as are also the end pieces B B, the former being curved at their upper and lower edges b b, which meet and thus form a pocket for the reception of the grooved wheel D, the journals of which are adapted to bearings l in the said cheek-pieces, all as shown in Fig. 2, and in the side View, Fig. 3, of the drawing. On the front edge of each of the cheekpieces is a rib, f, adapted, at its upper and lower ends, to the recessed edges h of the anged portions i of the end pieces B, the latter, with the said ribs, thus forming a flush face for the pulley-casing, and defining the shape of the opening in the front of the same for the passage of the sash-cord and grooved wheel D. Each end piece B has a hooked projection, k, which extends into the space between the cheek-pieces, fitting snugly against the curved upper and lower edges b, and between projections l on the innel` sides ot' the said cheek-pieces, and being retained in post tion partly bythe latter and partly by the connecting-rivets a a, which pass through holes in the cheek-pieces and across the hooked portions of the said projections 7c, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing.
I prefer that the projections 7c of the end pieces should be hooked, as above described; but they might be formed with holes for the passage of the connecting-rivets.
I claim as my invention- A window-pulley in which are combined two cheek-pieces, A A, and two end pieces, B B, the latter being adapted to and held in place partly by the said cheek-pieces and partlyl by the connecting-rods a a, as set forth.
In testimony wh ereot- I have si gued my name to this speciication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM M. GRISGOM.
