To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ANNIE WARDROPER, corset manufacturer, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Nos. 1, 2, and 3 Langley Court, Long Acre, in the county of London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements Relating to Stocking-Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to stocking-suspenders of the kind that are provided with a Waistband and with means for detachably connecting the same to the busts of the corset at a point adjacent to that where the suspenders join the waistband.

Hitherto the aforesaid waistband has been made to extend completely around the waist and has been provided with a buckle or buckles for enabling the same to be adjusted to suit waists of different size. According to my invention I make the said waistband of two lengths or members of appropriate material, which near their front or inner ends cross each other and receive the Suspenders, the said parts that cross each other being secured together by stitches or otherwise and one of the said parts being furnished with an eyelet for engaging with the lower bust-stud of the corset. The rear or outer ends of the two lengths or members are not connected together, but are furnished with hooks, clips, or other suitable fastening devices for enabling them to be connected with the corset. By making the waistband in a discontinuous piece and connecting it to the corset, as above stated, the pressure which a continuous waistband exerts on the spine of the wearer, due to the tension to which the Suspenders are subj ected while in use, is avoided and the comfort of the wearer thereby considerably bene fited.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a ont elevation of the .stocking-suspender waistband in the position it occupies when in use. Fig. 2 is a detail elevation as seen from the inside of the corset, showing a suitable form of the fastening devices for connecting the waistband to the back edges of the corset. Fig. 3 is a detail elevation of the portion of the waistband in proximity to the crossing ends thereof.

A A are the two lengths or members of the waistband, whose inner ends cross each other at ax, where they are secured together by stitching. These lengths may be made of inextensible material or each of them may be composed wholly or partially of elastic material, which will facilitate the retention of the fastening devices in place on the back edges of the corset, if such fastening devices are of the character requiring a constant pull to be exerted on the band to keep them in place. The outer ends of said lengths or members are each furnished with a fastening device for connecting them to the back edges b l) of the corset B. In the example shown the said fastening devices comprise hook-pieces b', firmly secured to the said ends by eyelets or the like and adapted to detachably engage with the back edges b of the corset, as best seen in Fig. 2. These hook-pieces grip the said back edges b with sufficient firmness to retain them in place. The said band is furnished with the eyelet bx or several of such eyelets for enabling the band to be connected with the bust-stud b2 of the corset, as already proposed by me in previous constructions of stocking-Suspenders.

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is*

1. A stocking-suspender waistband comprising two members having the inner ends crossing each other at an angle and secured together, stocking-Suspenders connected with said inner ends, an eyelet in one of said members for engaging with the lower buststud of the corset, and hook-pieces for detachably v connecting the outer ends of said members with the back edges of the corset substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. A stocking-suspender waistband comprising two elastic members secured together near their inner ends, stocking-suspenders connected with said inner ends, an eyelet on one of said members for connecting it with the lower bust-stud of the corset, and means for detachably connecting said members with the outer edges of the corset for the purpose specified.
