ATTACHMENT FOR HARNESS-PEGS- Specification of Letters Patent.

Be it known that I, ELMER D. WALLAoE, of

Minneapolis, Hennepin county, Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Harness- Pegs, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an inexpensive device to prevent a harness from accidentally falling or being pushed or pulled off from its peg.

The invention consists generally in a pivoted tongue mounted on the end of the peg and adapted to be raised to an upright position to hold the harness in place on the peg or turned dorm to allow the harness to be removed from the peg.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a side elevation of a harness-peg with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line y y of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device removed from the peg.

In the drawings, 2 represents a harnesspeg secured to an upright support 3. In the end of the peg I provide a triangular-shaped mortise 4, communicating with a horizontal recess 5 in the top of the peg. A wire 6 has an eye 7 at its laterally-turned lower end, which is secured by a screw 8 or other suitable means to the end of the peg at one side of the mortise therein. The wire extends vertically in front of the mortise, and near the top thereof is provided with a loop 9, projecting into the mortise and having a narrow throat 10. A horizontal arm 11 forms the wall of the loop on one side and terminates in an eye 12, adapted to fit within the recess 5 and be secured therein to the peg by a screw 13 or other suitable means. A tongue 14 is pivoted at its lower end on the laterally-turned end of the wire 6 and is adapted to swing thereon back and forth in the mortise and slip through the throat 10 into the loop 9, where it will be in an upright position above the end of the peg and will prevent the harness from accidentally slipping off the peg. I/Vhenever desired, the tongue can be pushed in out of the loop and swung a little to one side to clear it and then withdrawn from the mortise and swung down to a horizontal or vertical position to allow the harness to be slipped off the peg. The tongue can be operated very quickly, and when in its inoperative position will not in any way interfere with the removal of the harness from the peg or the replacing of it thereon. I have shown the device composed of wire; but other material may be used, if preferred.

I have shown the arm 11 set into a recess in the top of the peg; but this recess may be omitted, if preferred, and various modifications may be made in the manner of mounting the device on the peg.

I claim as my invention 1. The combination, with a harness-peg, of a tongue pivoted thereon at its outer end and adapted to be swung to an upright position, and means for limiting the outward movement of said tongue when raised to such position, substantially as described.

2. The combination, with a harness-peg provided with a mortise in its outer end, of a tongue pivoted on said peg and adapted to be swung to an upright position in said mortise, and means for limiting the outward swinging movement of said tongue, substantially as described.

3. The combination, with a harness-peg provided with a mortise in its outer end, of a wire having a laterally-turned end secured to said peg on one side of said mortise, said wire having a loop formed therein near the top of said mortise, and an end secured to the top of said peg, and a ton ue pivoted on the lower end of said wire in ont of said mortise and adapted to swing back and forth therein and enter said loop and be held thereby in an upright position, substantially as described.

4. The combination, with a peg, of a tongue pivotally supported thereon near its outer end and adapted to be swung to an upright position and project above the top of the peg, and means preventing the accidental displacement of said tongue from such position, substantially as described.

5. The combination, with a harness-peg having a mortise in its outer end, of a wire 6 secured to said peg at its lower end and having an inwardly-projecting arm 1 l and an intermediate loop, and a tongue 14 pivoted to the lower end of said wire 6 and adapted to swing back and forth in said mortise and enter said loop, substantially as described.
