TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: A I
Be it known that I, A.' E. TAYLOR, of New Britain, in the county'o'f Hartford, and in the State of Conneetieut, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Letter-Files;v and do hereby ldeclare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference beinghad lto,the.accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, A and B represent metallic plates, bent Iso that'their ends areat right angles with the body thereof, and sothat the anges or ends of.one will t between the anges oithe other, A, or the outer plate is provided with a horizontal catch or hool;,rc, and-B is providedwith slots, d d, in each sidethereoi, whichhave ratchet-teeth in one side of said slots, into which the hook c catches and' holds the said plates A and Brat any required distance apart.4
, When it may be desired to enlarge or expand the plates A and B, all that is necessary is to press downward andforward or backward, so as to loosethe catch c from the ratchet-teeth, and then pull them as far apart as may be ljequired. d

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' The combination of the bent-metal plates A B, plate B' being provided with' a ratchet-slot, d, on each side, and plate A provided with a catch, c, for said slot and ratchet, all operating as set'forth,
