UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID J. REX, OF lPI'lTSBUR'Gr, PENNSYLVANIA.
"` SHOE-EXHIBITOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,210, dated June 6, 1882.
Application filed January 10, 1882. (No model.) v
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID J. REX, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in
the county of Allegheny and State of Penn- Sylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe-Exhibitors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for use on boxes, Src., in stores,V for holding a shoe; and the object is to furnish a device for holdinga shoe n boxes, drawers, 85e., for exhibition or display, that is simple in its construction, readily manipulated, and that can be applied to boxes, drawers, te., in an expeditious and neat manner, and without in any wayV defacing or injuring the goods to be exhibited. It also serves as a pull for drawing said box out of its place on a shelf or a drawer.
The invention consists of a lbracket to which is pivoted a cam-shaped holder provided with a nger-bar to operate it, and between which bracket and holder the shoes, Snc., are held until released by the ngers. The bracket is to be secured in any suitable manner to boxes, drawers, Snc., containing the goods for exhibition, all of which will be more fully described hereinafter, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of my device applied to a box for exhibiting a shoe. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, with the cam orjaw shown opened. Fig. 3 is a front view of the same.
1n the drawings', A represents the bracket, having a base-piece, a, which is secured by staples, screws, or in any other suitable mauner, to a box, drawer, or other receptacle containing the shoes, 8vo., on exhibition in a store.
To the base a is attached a fiat angular projection, b, which at its outer end is formed into a vertical lug, c. To this lug o is pivoted a cam-lever or eccentric, B, forming at one side ceptacle.
a curved finger bar or piece, C, by which the cam B can be operated. The cam is preferably reduced at the place where it is secured to the lug by a rivet, screw, &c., and said cam is made broad on its face, so as not to injure j any shoes, dac., held by it. The base-piece can be provided with screw-holes for screws to hold it in place.
The shoes, Sto., can be held iu place by the ordinary loops by passing them above the veccentric circle of the cam, orthey may be clamped by the leather itself, and without injury to it, and can be readily attached or detached.
The device is very simple in its construction.
It is strong, very easily applied to its desired place on a box, drawer, or other suitable re- It is not liable to get out of order. It does notinj ure or in any way deface the goods to be exhibited. The goods can be quickly detached and replaced, as well as securely held in place. It has a very neat appearance, and it can be furnished at a very moderate cost.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure 4by Letters Patent, 1s t l. A shoe-exhibitor consisting of a bracket, A, having a bed-piece, a, an angular projection, b, with lug c, in combination with the cam lever B, substantially as shown.
2. In a clamping device for exhibiting shoes, the combination, with a bracket, A, having bedpiece a, angular projection b, and lug c, of the cam or eccentric lever B, provided with ngerbar C, substantially as shown and herein specified.
3. A clamping device for exhibiting shoes, consisting of a bracket provided with an angular projection and a 1ug,in combination with a cam-lever, arranged substantially as specied.
In testimony whereof 1 hereby aiIix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
