Speccaton of Letters Patent. l Application filed Iebruary 17, 1905. Serial No. 246,060.
"Patented March 1 r3,'1 906.
110A all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH FACETTE, a citivzen of the Dominion of Canada, residing at Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Purses and- Means for Suspending the Same, of which the following is a specication.
My invention relates tov urses or receptacles for containing valuab es and to'means for hanging them from the suspenders, where by they will be concealed from view by the vest and trousers. l v
Primarily the object of the invention is the provision of means for hanging a purse from the buckle-loop or other par-t of a pair of suspenders. Y, v A further object of the invention is the provision of a purse having an eye r loop secured to the front of the purse, said eye bein passed through a slot in the top portion, o a flap partially covering the front of the purse and being adapted to receive a snaphook or other device to which acorinection is applied for hanging the purse.
Other 'obj ects of the invention will be hereinafter described.
- the pocke In theaccornpanying drawings, Figure 1 is a view in elevation, showing the purse secured to the Suspenders. Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of the purse detached, showing the flap o en, the loop or eye, and the slot throughy In the base of the flap and at the point or f near said oint where the flap is folded over a slot 9 is formed, and projecting from the top ofthe front part 6 is an eye or loop 10, which may be secured in place by a short strap 12, integral with the front, said strap being passed through the eye or loop 10 and then folded over .the inner surface of said front and fastened by stitching 1 3 or in any other desired manner.v To close the mouth of the purse, the flap 8 is folded over the front 6, and the eye-or loop 10 is passed through the slot 9, where it may be locked against withdrawal by any desired means.
land the snap-hook applied as before.
Designated by 14 is a snap-hook, which in the construction shown is inserted in the eye or loop 10 and locks the flap against displacement. This snap-hook is carried by the loop 15 of a strap 16, said stra having a buckle 17 and` a free end 18, the atter being passed through oneof the buckle-loops 19'of apair of Suspenders 20. As is well known, it is all but impossible to secure purses, pocket-books, &c., in such a way that they cannot be abstracted by pickpockets and other criminals. By hanging the purse from the Suspenders, however, it is concealed between the upper part of the trousers and the body, and is consequently so located that`it is impossible to discover it, and, even if discovered, likewise impossible to detach it without the knowled e oftheI owner. i
hould it be desired to withdraw the purse lto obtain money or other valuables therethe snap-hook or other locking device, when the flap will be folded back, the desired material withdrawn, the Hap then refolded over the front 6 with the eye 10 inserted in slot v9,
.Havingthus described my invention, what I claim is- 1. The combination, with a purse or receptacle having a slot in its back, of an eye or loop secured to the front and inserted through the slot; a flap folded over the front; a locking'device inserted through the eye or loop; andmeans for suspending said locking device. y
2. The combination, with suspender-ends, and with a buckle-loop connected therewith, of a purse hung from said buckle-loop, and a detachable connection between the buckleloop and said purse.
3. A purse comprising a pocket having a slotted flap rojectingfrom its rear portion, and ada tedp to be folded over the -mouth of the poc et, an eye or loop secured to the front, and inserted through the slot in the iap, `combined with a suspending device, and a snap-hook carriedby said suspending device, and inserted in the eye or loop.
4. A purse comprising a pocket having a slotted flap projecting from its back and a front havin an eye or loop secured thereto, and inserte in the slot of the flap, combined with a snap-hook inserted in the eye or loop, and a strap carrying said snap-hook, and
In testimony whereof I aiiX my signature 1n presence of tWo Witnesses.
JOSEPH FACETTE.
