D. M. PARKINSON FILL FOLD PROTECTOR I Filed 001:. 20, 192
DamblMPar/rinson Patented Nov. 10, 1925.
DANIEL M. LEARKINSON, O1 DAYTON, OHIO.
BILL-FOLD PROTECTOR.
Application flied October 20, 1924. Serial No. 744,757.
To (all whom, it may concern.
Be it known that I, DANIEL M. PARKIN- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dayton, in the county of Montgomery and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bill-Fold Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates toa safety attachment for a pocketbook and has for its object to provide a device which may be attached to the pocketbook or wallet and by means of which the same cannot be removed by pickpockets or other unauthorized persons without the knowledge of the owner.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a billfold having my device attached thereto,
Figure 2, a front elevation of my device,
Figure 3, a section on line 3-3 of Figure 2,
Figure 4-, a similar view with the parts in another position, and
Figure 5, a detail view of a portion of the device.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates a billfold of any desired size and shape. The billfold 10 is provided with a flat body 11, preferably of metal, having a piercing element or pin 12 adapted to engage orbe caught in the clothing when the billfold to which the device is attached is attempted to be stealthily removed from the pocket of the owner.
The body 11 has a recess or slot 13 in its rear face in which is mounted a slide 14: carrying the piercing element or pin 12 pivotally supported between bifurcations 15 at one end thereof. The opposite end of said slide is provided with a screw 16 extending through a slot 17 in the body 11 and having a knob or finger piece 18 resiliently mounted thereon. The slot 13 is formed of greater depth at one end to accommodate the bifurcations 15 and the pin 12 and the portions of different depth are joined by an abrupt shoulder having a passage or opening 19 therein, through which the piercing element or pin 12 is adapted to be projected.
In order to maintain the slide 14 in proper position in the slot 13 I provide a plate 20 for the bottom of the body 11, this plate being preferably held in posit1on by bolts or rivets 21 which secure the plate 11 to the billfold 10.
In practice the wallet or billfold having my device applied thereto is placed in the pocket of the owner with the end having the knob 18 thereon uppermost and said knob then slid to the position shown in Figure 1 to bring the piercing element, or pm 12 upwardly and into engagement with the clothing.- or into a position that will readily catch in the clothing so that any unauthorized person, such as a pickpocket or rogue will experience considerable difficulty in removing the device from its resting place without the knowledge of the owner.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawings and described in the specification, but only as indicated in the appended claims.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. An attachment for pocketbooks com prising a body having a recess in its rear face, a passage extending from said recess to the front face of said body said body having a slot in its front face joining said recess, a slide in said recess, a piercing element carried by said slide and extending through said passage, and a manipulating element carried by said slide and extending through said slot, substantially as set forth.
2. An article of manufacture comprising a body having a recess in its rear face, a pair of openings extending from said recess to its front face, a slide in said recess, a piercing element carried by said slide and extending through one of said openings, a manipulating element also carried by said slide and extending through the other of said openings, and a plate on the rear face of said body for holding said slide in said recess, substantially as set forth.
3. An article of manufacture comprising a body having a recess in its rear face, a pair of openings extending from said recess to its front face, a slide in said recess, a
piercing element carried by said slide and extending through one of said openings, and a resiliently mounted manipulating element also carried by said slide and extending through the other of said openings whereby the operation of the manipulating element Will project the piercing element through said body a greater distance than the manipulating element, substantially as set forth.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at Dayton, Ohio, this sixteenth day of October, A. D. nineteen hun dred and twenty-four.
DANIEL M. PARKINSON.
