Description

@eine tetra figment @Him Letters Patent Nol 81,440, dated August 25, 1868.
rnrnovno comme-FRAME.
die tlptth trfertet it it metri-tanta ttait zint mating part mf its time.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY OONOERN:
Beit known that I, DANIEL F. WALLACE, of Ripley, in the county of Brown, in the State of Ohio, have invented new and useful 4Improvements in Quiltng-Frames; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature'of my invention consists in making a quilting-frame in such a manner that the quilt shall be smooth and square always, and may be moved from one roller to the other without changing its regular position.
To enable others skilled 4in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation. I
Figure 1 is a perspective View of my frame.
Figure 2 is a side view of frame.
Figure 3 is an end view of frame.
I make two-rests DsD, into which I set the 4movable posts a a a a, which are held in position by pins or Arods, so they may be moved nearer'or farther apart, if desired. Extending from the two posts a a, on one side,
to `those on'the otber, are two rollers, A B, on each end of which is eut a thread, and on which are the nuts b b b b. vThe ends of the rollers being` turned down, leaving shoulders, with the nuts b b I) turned up closely against posts a a a a, they are held firmly in place, and cannot turn, thus holding the quilt firm and secure.
Passing from post to post, on each end,is a brace, E, secured by scrcwsff, in one end of which is a slot, allowing it to be raised and lowered into place without removing the screw. f
These braces, E E, being of equal length, and all parts of my frame being made to work closely, but easily,
the quilt is always held squarely, and may be turned from roller A to roller E without disturbing its squareness, i
a feature not secured by other quiltin'gframes.
Another peculiar feature in 'my'frame is, that by having my rollers A B and braces E E, I do not elevate the quilt by moving it along, as is the 'case in-other frames. p r But still, if it is found to be desirable to elevate or depress the quilt for large or small persons, it can be done by having several slots in the braces E E. v
The nuts b b b I; may be as shown, with handles, or in any other shape to suit the fancy.
- Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim is- A quilting-frame, constructed with rests D D, movable posts a a a a, rollers A B, braces E E, and nuts b b b b, as combined and arranged for the use and purpose as specified and herein set forth.
In testimonywhereof, I have signed my name to this specification inthe presence of two subscribing witnesses.
DANIEL F. WALLACE.
