Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed October 2,1905. Serial No. 281,031.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIs J. HRONISH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Geddes, in the county of Charles Mix, State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hoof Trimmers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in hoof-trimmers, and has for its object to provide a simple device of this character which shall be inexpensive to manufacture and eflicient in action.
A further object of the invention is to provide means to prevent dulling of the knifeedge when the same comes in contact with the base-plate of the device.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction and arrangement of parts, as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts, and in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional view of the device.
Referring to the drawings, 5 indicates a base-plate which is here shown as being rectangular in form and which is provided near one of its ends with screw-threaded aperture 6. Screw-threadedlugs 7, formed on the lower ends of standards 8, are adapted to enter the apertures 6 to secure the standards 8 in an upright position on the base-plate 5. Each of the standards 8 comprises a shank portion 9 and an enlarged head portion 10, which is fiat and substantially circular in contour. The head portions 10 are provided with central transverse apertures 11, which are adapted to aline with each other when the standards are in position on the-base-plate. A substantially semicircular yoke 13 is provided with upwardly-extending hooked ends 14, which are adapted for engagement with the rod 12 near its ends, and the said yoke has formed integral with its central portion a handle 15. The inner face of the yoke is recessed, as at 16, for the reception of a knife 17 of the same contour as that of the yoke, and said knife is held in position therein by means of set-screws 18, carried by the said yoke. To adjust the knife 17 to compensate for wear, the set screws 18 pass through slots 19 in the knife 17 The base-plate 5 is provided with a recess 20, disposed directly beneath and conforming to the shape of the knife 17. Openings 21 are provided in the base-plate 5 and lead or any other soft metal 22 is flowed into said recess and openings to prevent dulling of the knife when the same is brought into contact with the base-plate.
In operation the the base-plate, with the rear of the hoof against the rod 12. The ends of the yoke are then hooked under the rod and pressure exerted on the handle 15. It will be readily seen that an even cut is secured with slight exertion. The deviceis simple and durable in construction and by providing different sizes of yokes and knives can be used on any hoof.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a base-plate, standards on said baseplate, a rod connecting said standards, and a inife-carrying yoke having hooked ends to engage said rod.
2. A device of the character described comprising a base-plate, standards carried by said base-plate, a rod connecting said standards, a yoke having hooked ends to engage said rod, a knife on said yoke, and means for adjusting said knife.
