LETTER FILE.
APPLICATION FILED AIB.14,1905.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LETTER-FILE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 13, 1906.
Application filed April 14. 1905- Serial No. 255,663.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CLARA CATHERINE HEID, of Juneau, in the District of Alaska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Letter-Files, of which the following is a specification.
This invention, which relates to letter-files, contemplates the production of a device of this character in which improved means are provided for tying the stack of letters or the like while in position on the file.
Ihe nature of theinvention will be readily understood, reference being had to the following detailed description, and to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the letterfile embodying the invention, and Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, 1 designates the base of the letterfile, and 2 is a plate fastened on said base at one end thereof and which carries pins 3 3 and transfer-wires 4 4. The pins are of tubular form, and each pin is slotted at its inner side, as at 5, said slot extending the full length of thepin. The base is provided with a slot 6, extending transversely, with its ends registering with the slots 5, and in the plate 2 are slots 7, in register with the slots 5 and 6.
In practice the transfer-wires are swung outwardly for the insertion of the letters, through which latter the pins extend in the usual manner. When the desired number of letters to form a bundle is complete, a needle with attached cord is passed at a downwardly through the pin and slot 6 at b, thence across to the opposite end of the slot 6, as at c, thence upwardly through the slot 6 and through the other pin 3 to the point (1, after which the ends of the cord may be tied and the fastened bundle removed bodily from the pin, or said cord may be passed over the bundle from d to a and thence through the tube to b to permit of the tying of the cord at the under side of said bundle. By the mean employed the work of tying the letters into a bundle when in position on the file may be easily and quickly performed, and when tied the bundle may, asabove stated, be removed bodily from the pin and the file may be employed for a new set of letters or the like.
I claim as my invention 1. A letter-file comprising a rectangular base having a transverse slot extending through the same, a plate fastened on the base at the one end thereof and having circular openings and slots extending from said openings in vertical alinement with the baseslot, and vertical tubular pins secured in said openings and each having in its inner side a vertical slot in alinement with the base and plate-slots.
2. A letter-file comprising a rectangular base having a transverse slot extending through the same, a plate fastened on the base at one end thereof and having circular openings and slots extending from said openings in vertical alinement with the baseslot, vertical tubular pins secured in said openings and each having in its inner side a vertical slot in alinement with the base and plate slots, and transfer-wires cooperating with said pins.
CLARA CATHERINE HEID.
