Be it known that I, HENRY K. KIso, a citizen of the Dominion of Canada, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and I1n proved Letter-File, of which the following -is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to letter files and has for an object the provision of an improved construction and arrangement whereby letters may be properly held together and segregated when placed in a cabinet.

Another object in View is to provide a file in which the sides are formed with folded portions whereby the 4file may be readily cxpanded without bowing the front or back, this arrangement being associated with an end having notches for accommodating the folded portion of the-sides.

A still further object in view is to provide a letter file in which means are provided for securing the letters in position and also an extension or name tab arranged on part of the file which extends beyond the remaining part so that when the file is in a cabinet the name will extend above the lile.

A further object is to provide a le in which bendable securing fingers are connected to the back of the le and readily operated so as to be forced through the letters arranged in the file.

Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, l indicates the back of the holder and 2 and 3 the sides. The sides are connected to the back by V-shaped structures 4l and 5 which allow for expansion of the holder for accommodating a comparatively large number of letters without either the front or back becoming rounded. In order to accommodate these members 4. and 5 the file inclosing an embodiment of the inven-V bottom member 6 is provided with notches 7 and 8 so as to receive the V-shaped members i and 5, as more clearly shown in Fig. 6. The member G is connected with a bottom flap 9 which is folded over the bottom edge of the letters 10 before the sides 2 and 3 are moved to a closed position.

Eyelets 11 and 12 are positioned in the back 1, said eyelets accommodating the cord 13 which also extends through the letters 10 and secures or holds these letters in place. The loose ends of the cord 13 may be secured together by a knot or by a specially constructed member as shown in Fig.'2, the particularl structure of this member not forming any part of the present invention.

rIhe inner face of the sides 2 and 3 are provided with spaces 14 and lfor receiving any desired information, side 3 being also provided with lines 16, 17 and 18, line 16 being arranged on the projecting` tab 19 so as to appear above the remaining part of the device when folded, as shown in Fig. l. Any suitable information may be arranged on lines 16, 17 and 18 and also spaces 14 and 15, as these spaces are provided for receiving information especially adapted for the particular business to which the holder is put. In order to insure that the sides 2 and 3 remain closed fastening eyelet members 20 are connected to the outer face of the sides 2 and 3 and a cord 21 associated therewith for holding the parts folded. The back 1 may be provided with an upper Hap 9', if desired, which is constructed similar to the lower flap 9. This arrangement of flaps at each end of the body 1 will prevent loose papers in the folder from becoming accidentally lost and will allow the proper filing of loose letters. ldhen fastening means are used, as for instance, cord 13, the flap 9 may be omitted or used as preferred.

In Figs. 3 and et will be seen a slightly modified form of the invention, in which eyelets 22 and 23 are used for clamping in position the bendable fingers 21 and 25, said eyelets extending through said fingers and firmly clamping the end of the fingers to the back 1. When this form of the device is in use the letters 10 are perforated'and the fingers 24 and 25 thrust therethrough and bent over as shown in Fig. 4.
