Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 19, 1907.
Application led March 13, 1906. Serial No. 305.795.
To aZZ whom it may concern,.- l
Be it known that we, WALTER M,- ELLETT and ROLLO M. VIoK, citizens of the United States, residing at Alliance, in the county`of Stark and State of Ohio, have jointly invented certain new and useful Im rovements in File-Clips, and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the numerals and figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a view showing a board, or what might be termed a drawer of a cabinet, illustrating anumber of clips properly placed thereon. Fig. 2 is a view of a board or a drawer, showing a single clip and illustrating parts broken away. `Fig. 3 is a transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 2. The present invention has relation to file- ,clips, more especially designed for use ini credit-registers; and it consists in the novel arrangement hereinafter described, and par-` ticularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar numerals of reference indicate correspondingparts in all the figures of the draw- 1n s.
n the accompanying drawings, 1 represents the board or drawer, which of course ma be of any desired size, reference being ha to the number of cli s to be attached OI' the size of the clips. T e board or drawer, which is designed to be placed in a cabinet, but not necessarily so, owing to the fact that the present invention can be put to use without any reference to a cabinet, and especially so as to any particular kind of cabinet. The edges of the boards or drawers are rovided with the lianges 2 and any desire number of intermediate stripsv 3, which strips are so formed that grooves 4 will be produced. The clips proper are formed of spring-wire and are substantially of the form shown, and, as shown, they consist of the outer side members 5, the end members 6, and the intermediate spaced members 7, which are connected by the integral member 8. The outer members are held iny fixed position with reference to the board or drawer and 'are preferably located in the grooves 4 and are eld against displacement by means of the tangs 9, which are seated in the flanges 2, and the strips 3. In filing slips, and especially credit-slips,it is of importance that the :consisting of fixed portions the top of the uppermost slip regardless of the number of slips filed or placed under any given clip, so that the usual free. end of the binding-clip will not be elevated beyond the top of the uppermost slip.
In order that the abovey advantage may be carried out, the members 6 are located at angles to the binding members 7 and are formed of sufficient length to allow said members to assume the osition illustrated in Fig. 3, which osition a lows both ends of the binding memers 7 to move upward or away from the board 1 or away from any number of credit-slips placed under the binding members and to remain parallel at all times and under all conditions. The connecting member 8 is free to be moved upward a sufficient distance to permit the slips to be laced in position, and as the connecting mem er 8 is moved upward the binding members 7 will be carried upward and their opposite ends will move u ward, which upward movement is permitte by reason of the members 6 being formed of sufficient length to allow the inner or connected ends to move with the members 7.
Having fully describedbur invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- 1. A le-clip formed of s ring-wire and libld in secured ppsitions, angled members connected t'o said ed portions, binding members connected to the angled members, said binding members located between the fixed members and spaced therefrom, and means adapted to join the binding members, substantially as vand for the purpose specified.
2. The combination of a board or drawer provided with anges and strips, grooves formed in the flanges and strips, a clip consisting of outer secured members, an led members and binding members, the bin ing members adapted to lie in parallel position with the face of the board or drawer at different spaced relation therefrom, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
ln testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
WALTER M. ELLETT. ROLLOl M. vIox.
