Specification of Letters IPatent.
Patented Aug. 15, 1905.
Application iled April 4, 1904. Serial No. 201,451.
To (L7/Z 11171/0772/ it may oon/cern.-
Be it known that I, LEON M. LnsLin, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Leslie, in the county of Bergen. and State of New Jersey, have made and invented certain new and useful Improvements in Transfer- Iinders, of which the `following is a specilication.
My invention relates to an in'iin'ovement in what is known in the art as transferbinders, which are adapted to be used in connection with flat-(mening loose-leal. ledgers or other account-books for iiling away the leaves which are no longer in current use. Uf course so far as the principles oi. the invention are concerned it may be practicable -for other uses, so that in employing the term transierebindei"y it will be understood that I do not wish to be limited technically to what is known thereby in the trade.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter described, and :referred to in. the appended claim..
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Eigure 1. is a perspective view ol a transfer-binder embodying my invention, and Eig 2 is a longitudinal cross -sectiion taken through the upper cover of the binder. Eig. 3 is a plan view, certain of' the parts being bro ken away.
In the drawings, A represents the lower cover or base of the transier-bimler, and I3 the upper cover thereof. To the base A are secured the vertical posts C, herein shown as two .in number, these posts being adapted to engage with notches or perforations in the leaves to be iiled away in the binder. These posts C are provided on their adjacent faces with a series oi notches or teeth, and within the rear portion of the upper cover B are provided two sliding plates D, which are cut out, as shown. at E, and normally separated 4by' spring G, so that the edgesof the cut-out portions will engage the notches in the posts. These plates D extend out 'flush with the rear portion of the upper cover, the .latter being cut out at the ends, as shown at I-I, so
nient of the top cover, thus keeping the leaves in compact form..
l/Vhen it .is desired to insert or remove leaves :from the transfer-binder, it .is only necessary to press inwardly upon the plates I), when the spring will yield and allow the plates to become disengaged from thenotches in posts C, and the top cover can then be raised to the extent desired. Preferably the top cover is perforated, as shown, to Vlit over the posts readily,
Having thus described my invention, what I claim., and desire to secure by Letters Patent,- is
In a transfer-bimler, the combination with the base-piece, provided with vertical posts having notches therein, olE the movable cover having `its rear portion provided with perforations to receive the posts, a pair of sliding plates inclosed within the rear portion oli the movable cover, each having an opening :for a post, and a single spring arranged to act upon both sliding plates to normally hold them in engagement with the notches oiIv the posts, the ends of the Arear portion olf' the cover being cut away to permit the sliding plates to be pressed inward to release them :lrom engagement with the posts and the posts serving as means ier preventing the outer ends oi" the sliding plates proj ectingbeyond the edges oithe cover.
Signed at New York, borough oil l\/Ianhattan, in the county of New York and State of NewYork, this .l'th day oi' l\iarch, A. l). i004.
