beam of the plow and a special form of stock which coacts with the handle attaching means in a manner which will appear more full hereinafter.

The object of the invention is to simplify .the construction of the attaching means of the parts above mentioned and to obviate likelihood of accidental detachment of the handles.

For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction of the means for effecting the result reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of those parts of the plow included in the invention, parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a transverse section taken through the beam. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the sockets for the handles. Fig. 4 is a perspective view showing a modified form of the invention applied to a cultivator-handle.

The beam of the plow is designated 1, and the stock 2. The stock 2 is of peculiar form, having the upper portion thereof bifurcated, as shown at 3 to form spaced members 4, between which the beam 1 is received. The members 4 are provided with suitable horizontal bolt-openin s, bolts 5 passing therethrough above ant, below the beam and socurely attachin the stock thereto. The stock 2 is provi ed at its upper portion and on the rear side thereof with an opening which receives the lower end of the brace 6, the upper end of said brace bein received in an opening in the under side of t e beam ad jacent the rear end of the latter. The brace 6, cooperating with the fastenings 5, forms an effective means for rigidly mounting the stock 2 on the beam, as will be readily apparent.

The handles of the plow are denoted at 7, and these handles are peculiarly secured to the beam. The lower end of each handle 7 is received in a socket 8 and held in place therein by means of a pin 9, which is adapted to pass through a selected one of a series of openings 8, arranged at intervals in the length of the socket, preferably on the upper side thereof. Each handle is formed with an opening in its lower end into which the pin 9 0 its socket 8 may be received to secure the handle to the socket, and in view of the provision of the series of the openings 8 in the socket 8 it will be readily seen that the handles may be raised and lowered and held in an adjusted position for the convenience of the operator. Each socket 8 is formed with a downwardly and forwardly extending foot or extension 10, which is received in a longitudinal recess 11, one of which is formed on each side 01 the beam 1 near its rear end. The feet or extensions 10 of the two sockets 8 when arranged on the opposite sides of the beam in the recesses 11 aforesaid are secured in position by means of a clamp 12, which is carried by the beam and secured just in front of the sockets 8. The sockets 8 are not only held in lace by means of the clamp 12, above descri ed, but the spaced members 4 -of the stock 2 engage over the forward end portions of each foot or extension 10, and when the stock is rigidly secured by means of the bolts 5 it will be apparent that the same cooperates to attach the sockets, which are rigidl held in place. The handles 7 are (le tacha lo and are of course connected by the usual cross-bar 13 near the upper end thereof.

The parts though readily adjustable are 5 not likely to become detached accidentally under actual working conditions of service, though they may be readily applied and removed whenever it is desired or found neces sary.

As seen in Fig. 4, this invention is e ually well ada ted to be employed upon cu tivators an other similar agricultural implements and is not limited in respect to its application.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. In a low, the combination of a beam, a stock app 'ed thereto, sockets secured to the beam near the rear end portion thereof, handles having the lower ends secured to said sockets, and a clamp attached to the beam and holding said sockets in position thereon, the upper portion of the stock being bifurcated to form spaced members upon opposite sides of the beam, said spaced members eoacting with the sockets to hold the same in position.

2. In a plow, the combination of a beam,

sockets projecting upwardly from the rear end. portion of the beam, each socket being formed with an integral foot extending there from longitudinally of the beam at a side of the latter, a U-shaped clamp and clamp-plate embracing the rear end portion of the beam and engaging the feet of the sockets to secure the same to said beam, handles having the lower ends thereof mounted in the sockets, and means for securing said handles to the sockets.

3. In a plow, the combination of a beam,

\ sockets arranged at the rear end portion of the beam, handles mounted in said sockets, and a stock attached to the beam and coact ing with the sockets to hold the same in position.

4. In a plow, the combination of a beam, sockets arranged at the rear end portion of the beam, handles mounted in said sockets, feet or extensions projected from. the sockets and arranged on opposite sides of the beam, said. beam being formed with recesses to re ccive said extensions, a clamp secured to the beam and holding the extensions of the sockets in the recesses in which they are arranged, a stock secured to the beam and having its upper end formed with spaced members engaging the extensions on the sockets and coacting therewith to hold the sockets in position, and a brace between the rear end of the beam and the stock.
