EXTENSION-MOLDBOARD.
eas es.
Application filed September 22, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AARON L. YORK, J12, a citizen of the United States, residing at Liberty, in the county of Randolph and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Extension-Moldboard, of which the following is a specification.
'i. his invention relates to plows, and more particularly to devices known as extensible mold boards.
T he primary object of the invention is to provide a device of this character to be secured to the plow beam, and have connection with the stationary mold board of the plows, now in use, to prevent choking or clogging of the plow behind the mold board thereof.
A further. object of the invention is to provide means for removably securing the extension mold board, to the mold board of the usual plow in use, whereby the movement of the attached mold board, with relation to the stationary mold board is absolutely prevented.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the com bination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed without de Jarting from the spirit of the invention.
eferring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a side elevational view of a plow having the extensible mold board, constructed in accordance with the present invention, applied thereto.
Fig. 2 illustrates a rear elevational view of the same, and
Fig. 3 illustrates a perspective view of the extensible mold board having the securing means applied thereto.
Having reference to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the stationary mold board of the ordinary plow now in use, the same being provided with an upper beveled surface 6, the bevel thereof, being disposed on the side of the mold board, adjacent the beam 7, which beam has connection with the mold board 5, in the usual manner, the same being spaced from the upper portion of the mold board as at 8, to provide a clearance for the securing means Specification of Letters Patent.

of the extensible mold board forming the subject matter of the present invention.
This plow beam 7 is curved as at 9, and extends forwardly terminating at a predetermined point in front of the plow proper, and provides means for attaching the draft mechanism, not shown, thereto.
The extensible mold board, includes a curved element 10, formed of any suitable metal, the same being provided with a lower beveled edge 11, which cooperates with the beveled edge 6 of the mold board 5, when the extensible mold board 10, is applied thereto.
Secured to the outer curved surface of the xtensible mold board 10, is the wedge block 12, having an inclined surface 13, which block is of a size to substantially span the space between the extensible mold board, and the plow handle, to set up a wedging action between the mold board 5 and the plow beam 7, when the mold board 10 is operatively positioned on the mold board 5.
From the foregoing it will be noted that lateral movement of the extensible mold board 10 with relation to the mold board 5 is prevented, and in order to secure the extensible mold board 10 against vertical displacement, the extensible mold board 10 is provided with metallic strap members 14 and 15, each of which has its upper end bolted to the extensible mold board 10, adjacent the respective ends thereof whereby the extensible mold board 10 is rigidly secured to the mold board 5, adjacent its ends. These strap members 14 and 15, extend downwardly and when in position on the mold board 5 of the plow proper, lie in close engagement with the inner side wall of the mold board 5, the openings 16 and 17 thereof registering with opening 18, formed in the mold board 5, which openings receive suitable securing bolts 18 which are provided with flat heads, adjacent the outer side of the mold board 5, the inner ends of said bolts being threaded to receive nuts, not shown, whereby the extensible mold board may be readily removed from the mold board 5. It is obvious in the position of the extensible mold board 10, the same is slid over the upper edge of the stationary mold board 5, and wedged against the plow beam 7, after which the straps l4 and 15 are bolted to the mold board 5, as heretofore described.
' The rearwardly extending arms 19, afford handles by which the plow is guided in the usual manner by the operator, bracing bars 20 being provided to connect the arms 19 to the plow beam 7, to rigidly secure the same to the plow. 7
If it becomes necessary to remove the plow, the bolts 14 and 15 are removed, with the result that by slightly tapping on the forward portion of the extensible mold board the .same will readil disen a e the 7 b D plow beam 7, and fall therefromr It might be further stated that due to the securing means applied in the present invention, the extensible mold board may be readily and quickly applied, in a manner as before stated.
Having, thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. In combination with a plow beam, and
.a stationary mold board having a beveled tionary mold board, and-means carried by the removable mold board and having connection with the plow for securing the removable mold board against vertical displacement. 7
2. In vcombination with a plow beam, and a stationary mold board having a beveled upper edge, a removable mold board having a beveled lower edge cooperating with the beveled upper edge, a wedge shaped block carried by the removable mold board for engaging the plow beam, metallic strap connected'to the removable mold head, said metallic strap having connection with the stationary mold board for securing the removable mold board against vertical displacement; p I
3. In combination with a plow beam and stationary mold board thereof, a removable mold board having a wedge shaped block cooperating with the plow'beam for setting up a wedging action between the removable mold board an(:l stationary mold board, and a securing means having connection with the stationary mold board forsecuring the removable mold boa-rd moldgboard. V I
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aiiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses;
