EXTENSION-BED.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 30, 1906'.
Application tiled .Tune 21,1905. Serial No. 266,308.
To t/Z whom, it may cmzccrn:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH H. HANNON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nathan, in the county of Menominee, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Beds; and l do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hedsteads.
One object of the invention is to provide a bedstead embodying such characteristics that it may be readily converted into a single or'double bedstead".
Another object of the invention resides in the provision of an exceedingly simple, inexpensive, durable, and e'l'licient bedstead of such character that an iron or other bedstead may be readily converted from a double into a single bedstead.
With these and other objects in view the present invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter more i'ully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim, it being understood that changes in the form, proportion, size, and minor details may be made within the scope of the claim without departing `from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the present invention.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 2 is an elevation of a head-post,
3 5 illustrating the single bedstead.
Referring now more particularly to the accompanymg drawings, the reterence charac ters 1 and 2 designate the head-posts of the bedstead, the post 1 having upper and lower horizontal rods 3 'and 4 and the post 2 having upper and lower horizontal rods 5 and 6, respectively, the 'free ends of the rods 3, 4, 5, and 6 being screwthreaded 'for a purpose presently explained.
The reference character 7 designates a headboard-section consisting oi vertical rails 8, which are connected at their upper ends to an oval-shaped or horizontal loop member 9, having screw-threaded studs 1() and 11 at its ends, there being a horizontal rod 12 connect- 4ed to the lower end of the vertical bars 8 and the head thereof,
extending upon both sides thereof with screwthreaded extremities. studs 10 and 11. of the .loop member 9 are de signed to aline with the horizontal rods 3 and 5 of the headboard and. are held in alinement by means of suitable collars 13 and 14, the said collars being interiorly screw-threaded for engagement with the screw-threads of the respective studs and bars 3 and 5 of the head of the bedstead, it being understood that the collars have right and left threads. The lower horizontal bar 1 2 is in alinement with the short rods 4 and 6 and. is held in alinement therewith by means of the collars 15 and 16, which latter have right and left threads for proper engagement with the right and left threads oi' the short horizontal bar 12 and the alining horizontal bars 4 and 6. Connecting the horizontal members 3 and 4 The screwthreaded and 5 and 6 are vertical rods 17, which aline with the aforesaid vertical rods 8.
A double bedstead has been described, and. in order to convert the same into a single bedstead it is simply necessary to remove the section 7, which may be done by unscrewing the collars 13, 14, 15, and 16 and connecting the respective ends of the bars 3 and 5 and 4 and 6 by means of any of the collars 13, 14, 15, or 16.
It will be understood that the foot of the bedstead is formed in the same manner as is and it is to be still further understood that the bedstead may be formed of solid, tubular, or other lorin and. character of material.
A convertible bedstead comprising oppositely-disposed posts, upper and lower rods connected to each post, said rods having their extremities screw-threaded, a section having a horizontal bar at its lower end screwthreaded at its extremities, and a loop inember at its upper end, provided with screwthreaded projections at its ends, the horizontal bar oi the said section being adapted l'or alinement with the lower short rods of the respective posts and. the said projections being arranged for alinement with the upper rods ol the respective posts, collars arranged for screw-threaded engagement with the upper horizontal rods and the corresponding projeetons of the said loop of said section, and Intestmony whereof I ax my signature collars arranged for screw-threaded engagein presence of two witnesses. ment with the lower horizontal rods of the re- Y T speotve posts and the horizontal rod of said JOSEPH H' HAB NON' 5 section, whereby the latter may be dsoon- Witnesses:
