TWO-COMPARTMENT l'Nl/'ELOP-v .Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1906.
ippiimionfiiea June 17,1905. sriaiNazsJsQ.
To @ZZ whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, LYMAN RICHARDS SWETT, acitizen of the United-States,"resid ing at Boston, in the' county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Two- Compartment Envelops and -I do hereby declare the following-to e a full, clear, and eX- act description of the invention, such as willl enable others skilled in the art to which it apl edge, and the other end section has an'end adhesive sealing-lap, so that when the end sections are folded, one upon the other upon the middle section the said adhesive laps are se cured to the lapped end sections in a novel manner to form the 'two compartments, one
opening at the side and the other at the end of the envelop, the laps being soarraged as to form said compartments by the two end sections only having equal length with the middle section, thus saving cost in paper and requiring little time to fold and unite the two end sections, as cheapness and quickness in making such envelope is the important matter to the trade.
Referring to the accom anying drawings, Figure 1 shows the blank gom which the envelop is formed.' Fig. 2 shows the blank with one of its end sections 4 folded on the middle section. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section on the line 1 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line 2 of Fig. 2. Fig 5 is a like section showing the side edge adhesive lap 2 of the middle section turned down upon the vedge of the folded end section. Fig. 6 is a View like Fig. 2, showing the side edge lap 5 of the folded end section turned down upon it. Fig. 7 shows the lother end section 6 folded upon the folded end section, the sealingla s of the two compartments being open. Fig. 8 shows the reverse side of Fig. 7. F ig. 9 is atransvei'se section on the line 3 of Fig. 7.' F ig. 10 is a longitudinal section on the line 4 of Fig. 7. A
I have shown and prefer to form the e'nvelop from a single blank, but obviously separate pasted sections may form the blank and the envelop. The blank'is a strip of paper the Width of the envelop divided into three the sections of equal length on the folding-lines a and b, the middle section 1 having a narrow adhesive la 2 at one edge and a sealing-lap 3 at its opposite edge, One ofthe end sections 4 has a narrow adhesive lap 5 at the edge in alinemeiit with the sealing-lap 3l of the middle section, and the other end section 6 has an end sealing-lap 7. With those two folding-sectiens and the four, narrow adhesive laps disposed as described the envelopis formed With the two compartments as follows: The sec- -tion 4 is folded-upon the middle section, the
adhesive lap 2 of which is folded upon the edge of the said folded section 4, whilethe adhesive lap 5 of said section 4 is folded over and upon said section, as in Fig. 6. These laps 2 and 5 are provided with an adhesive substance on their upturned sides, and the section 6 is folded .over upon the section 4 and secured to the lap '2 of the section 1 and the edge 8 and form the pocket-opening 9 at the overhanging end lap 7 between the joiningsurfaces of the sectlons 4 and 6 when folded. This leaves the adhesive side edge lap 3 of the section l open to form the opening at 11, Fig. 9, for the pocket l2', opening at' the'side of the envelop. By this construction it will be noted that the end section 4 is preferably not secured to middley section 1 and that the end section 6 is secured to the adhesive lap 2 of the middle section and to the adhesive lap 5 of the folded section 4, thereby securing the back section 6 to both the front and the inner sections 1 and 4 and causing the inner folded section to reinforce the front and back ofthe envelop by two narrow laps.
The envelop may be used for church and commercial purposes, and I have indicated that the back compartment is for missions and benevolence and the front compartment for current expenses of church or Sundayschool.
I. claim- A two-compartment envelop formed from a blank of threerfections of equallength, the middle section liavin an adhesive lap on one side edge and a scaling-lap on its opposite side edge, one end,i section having a side edge y adhesive lap, the other end section having an end sealing-lap, the end section having the side edge adhesive lap folded u on the middle section, the side edge adhesive a of the middle section and the side edge a esive lap of the end section folded upon said en'd section,
