ENvELorE.
Application mea May e, 1920. serial No. 379,802.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, DAVID WARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Leetonia, in the county of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in an Envelope, of which the following is a specification. y
fMy invention relates to an envelope.
The main object 'of the invention is to provide an envelope having a' plurality of in dependent compartments, one or both of which may optionally be sealed, and which is capable of expeditious manufacture in a single sheet soas to be capable of marketing for universal'or general use at low cost.
The invention resides in the particular features of construction, arrangement and combination of the parts' hereinafter described in relation to Iaccompanying drawings and then claimed. y
In said drawings, one preferred embodiment is illustrated and therein:
v Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from which the envelope is formed;
Figure 2 is a-perspective view of the en velope blank partially folded into ,envelope form;
Figure 3 is a rear view of the envelope with bothsealing aps open;
Figure 4 is a cross-section on the line 4 4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a rear view of theenvelope sealed;
Figure 6 is a cross-section on the line 6-6 of Figure 5, and
Figure 7 is av cross-section through the center of an envelope closed in another manner. y
Referring specifically to the drawings, wherein like reference characters designate like or similar parts, the envelope is formed from a blank as best illustrated in Figuresl and 2, being cutfrom a single sheet 4of paper or other material. It has outside walls 8 and 9, adapted to be folded together` along the dotted line 10 and an inner or dividing wall 11, extending from one end of wall 8 andvbeing foldable against the same along the dotted line 12. Each wall 8 and 9 has a sealing flap, respectively designated 13 and 14, being foldable along the dotted lines 15 and havingl adhesive thereonas at 16. the free end of wall 11, a Hap 17 is provided being foldable against the wall and having adhesive thereon. r'ilso, flaps 18, one at each side of wall 9 are provided thereon and foldable against the same and have an application of adhesive thereon as shown. I I
In folding 'the blank into envelope form, the parts are positioned as in Figure 2. Wall 11 is first folded along line 12 against wall 8. Flap 17, being folded against wall 11 is secured to the inner surface of wall 8 through the adhesive thereon after being moistened. Wall 9 is then folded along line 10 against wall 11. Flaps 18, being folded inwardly against wall 9, may then be secured to wall 8, after moistening the adhesive thereon. The envelope thus produced will have two independent compartments, one of them intermediate the wall 8 and wall 11, capable of being closed by flap 13 and the other between wall 11 and wall 9 and adapted to be closed by the flap 14:.
Various methods of fastening the com partments will suggestr themselves. For instance, one flap may be folded inwardly intermediate one of the outer and the inner wall and the other flap extend across the insert openings and then be pasted to the eX- terior of one of the outer walls, as suggested in Figure 6. Also as shown in Figure 7, but one compartment need be sealed in some instances, since a sealing flap may close one insert opening and then extended into the opposite compartment and sealed against the dividing wall 11. The other flap may simply be loosely folded and ldisposed in the opposite compartment. Many combinations and uses will be apparent and hence no limitation to any particular use or method of folding is to be inferred.
Since merely one preferred embodiment has been illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in the ldetails falling within the spirit and scope of the appended claim, may be made.
yengil-gement with the edges of the first 1ne11- tioned flap, said back Wall providing a closure for the bottom of the pocket formed by the front Wall and first mentioned flap, and sealing tongues formed integral With the upper edges of said Wells for seperately closing the compartments provided.
