Be it known that I, THEonoR KUNDTZ, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lakewood, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cabinet-work for Sewing-\Iachine Tables; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in cabinet-work for sewing-machine tables.

One object of this invention is to materially but inexpensively enlarge the capacity of the drawers of the drawercases of the cabinet-work, to have the upper ends of the drawer-cases of the cabinet-work and the up per portion of a drawer arranged and extending longitudinally between the upper ends of the drawer-cases.appear as participating in the thickness or formation of the table-top of the cabinet-work.

Another object is to provide a meritorious construction of the drawer-cases and to conceal the upper portions of the metal legs or frames of the sewing-machine table.

ith these objects in view this invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts hereinafter de scribed, and pointed out in the claims.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front side elevation of a sewing-machine table, being illustrative of my improved cabinet-work for the said table. Fig. 2 is a horizontal section on line 2 2, Fig. 1, looking downwardly. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section on line 3 3, Fig. 1, looking downwardly. Fig. 4 is a view in perspective in one of the drawercases detached and without the drawers. In Fig. 1 of the drawings the lower portions of the metal legs or frames are shown broken away to reduce the size of the drawing, and Fig. 4 is drawn on a larger scale than Figs. 1, 2, and 3.

Referring to the drawings, A indicates the table-top of my improved cabinet-work.

The table-top A extends over the two drawer-cases B and B, which form opposite sides, respectively, of the cabinet-work. The topA is arranged horizontally and provided with an opening a, which extends vertically through the top and is shown only in dotted lines, Fig. 1. The top A is provided at the upper side with a top frame F, which is provided with an opening f, extending through the said frame, which opening is shown only in dotted lines, Fig. 1, and arranged in registry with the opening a. The openings a and f accommodate the passage through the top A of the sewing-machine head. (Not shown.) The frame F is provided with a cover E for closing the opening The two drawer-cases B and B are, as already indicated, arranged next under oppo site ends,respectively, of the table-top A and suitably spaced to accommodate the location of the metal legs or frames L of the sewing machine table, which legs are spaced laterally to accommodate the location between them of the sewingmachine head (not shown) and the driving-wheel. (Not shown.) Both drawer-cases correspond in construction, and a drawer-case is shown detached in Fig. 4. Each drawer-case comprises a horizontally-arranged top frame or top 10 and two shelves 12. The said frame 10 and the said shelves 12 are spaced vertically and participate in the formation of compartments for drawers 0, which occupy the said compartments. The table-top A extends over and substantially covers the 'top frames 10 of the two drawer-cases. The shelves 12 and the top 10 of each drawercase' are suitably connected together by two upright wooden pieces P, arranged at the inner side of the case and spaced between and a suitable distance from the forward and rear ends of the case, which shelves and the said top are glued or otherwise fastened to the said uprights P. The top 10 and the shelves 12 of each drawercase are suitably connected together by two upright wooden pieces Q, arranged at theouter side of the case and spaced between and a suitable distance from the forward and rear ends of the case, and the said shelves and thesaid top are glued or otherwise fastened to the said uprights The d rawercontaining compartments of each drawer-case are formed between the inner uprights P and the outer uprights Q of the drawer-case, and the drawers 0, engaging the said compartments, are movable forwardly and rearwardly from within and into the said compartments. Each drawer-case is provided with an outer wooden side piece 13, which is large enough in dimensions to form the outer side wall of the compartments of the said case, and the said side piece is bent at its rear end inwardly, as at 14, to form the rear walls of the said compartments. The piece 13 of each drawercase is glued or otherwise attached to the shelves 12, top 10, and outer uprights Q of the said case. The drawer-cases B are not directly secured to the legs or frames L of the sewing-machine table, but are removably secured, preferably by means of screws 8, to the table-top A, which screws, as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, extend vertically through the tops 10 of the drawer-cases into the table-top A and have their heads countersunk in the tops of the drawer cases. Each drawer of each drawercase is provided at its forward end and inner side and next forward of the adjacent leg or frame L of the sewing-machine table with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension which has a compartment 15, which is preferably shallow to render it convenient, which compartment materially enhances the capacity and usefulness of the drawer. Each drawer of each drawer-case (see Fig. 3) preferably comprises a box 16, arranged to fit the respective compartment of the case and long enough to render it capable of projecting a suitable distance forwardly of the forward uprights P and Q of the said case in the inner and closed position of the drawer, which box 16 is externally provided at its left-hand side and a suitable distance rearwardly of its forward extremity and preferably next forward of the for ward inner upright P of the said drawer-case with a laterally-projecting wing 17, which forms, the rear side wall of the compartment 15, formed by the lateral extension of the forward end of the said drawer, and also constitutes a stop arranged to engage the forwardly-facing surface of the said upright P in the inner and closed position of the drawer. The bottom 18 of the said compartment is arranged, preferably, about centrallybetween the top and bottom of the said box 16, and the left-hand side wall and front wall of the said compartment 15 is formed by a single piece 20 of wood which extends along the left-hand edge and forward edge of and is glued or otherwise attached to the said bottom and extends over and covers the outer side of the forward end wall of the said box and overlaps the right-hand side wall of the said box forwardly of the forward outer upright Q of the respective drawer-case and is glued or otherwise attached to the said box and to the wing 17 of the said box-that is, the front of each drawer c and the front of the lateral extension of the drawer is formed by a single wooden piece 20. The compartment -forming lateral extension of each drawer conceals the adjacent portion of the adjacent leg or frame L of the sewing-Inachine table and preferably projects inwardly a suitable distance beyond the inner side of the said leg or frame. The top 10 of each drawercase is provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension 22, which is arranged to cover the compartment of the lateral extension of the upper drawer of the said case in the inner and closed position of the drawer, as shown in Fig. 2, and prevents exposure of the adjacent leg or frame L between the said drawer and the tabletop A. Each shelf 12 of each drawer-case is provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension 23, which extends in under and covers the under side of and supports the lateral extension of the drawer on the said shelf in the inner and closed position of the drawer. A central drawer G is arranged longitudinally between the extensions 22 of the tops 10 of the drawer cases. The upper portion 24 of the front of the drawer G projects forwardly of the lower portion 25 of the said drawer, as shown in Fig. 2. The upper portion 24 of the said front is arranged in line horizontally with the tops 10 of the drawer-cases and is arranged flush at its outer side with the forward edges of the said tops. The drawer G is vertically pivoted, as at 9, near the righthand extremity of the upper portion of its front to the table-top A. It will be observed that the upper portion 24 of the front of the drawer G and the forward edges of the tops 10 of the drawer-cases have the appearance of forming a part of the table-top A. The

appearance of the table-top is therefore materially improved without objectionably increasing the said top in Weight. The upper portion 24 of the front of the drawer G fits snugly at its outer side between the tops 10 of the drawer-cases in the closed position of the drawer, and the opposing surfaces of the ,top of each drawer-case and the adjacent end of the said drawer have such trend that interference with the free movement of the said drawer out of and into the space between the extensions 22 of the tops 10 of the drawercases is avoided.

Vhat I claim is- 1. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine table comprising a table-top; a drawer-case arranged in under an end of the table-top and comprising a horizontally-arranged top and shelves spaced vertically to form verticallyspaced compartments, with the top of the drawer-case arranged next below and removably attached to the table-top and provided at its forward end with a laterally and inwardly projecting cover-forming extension,

and the drawers in the aforesaid compartments, with each drawer provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension provided with a compartment, with the compartment of the extension of the upper drawer arranged to be covered by the aforesaid cover-forming extension. of the top of the drawer-case in the inner and closed position of the last-mentioned drawer.

2. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine table comprising a table-top; a suitably-sup- IIO ported drawer-case arranged in under an end of the table-top and comprising a horizontally-arranged top and a shelf arranged a suitable distance below the last-mentioned top, with the said top of the drawer-case provided at its forward end with a laterally and inwardly projecting coverforming extension, and the drawer in the compartment formed between the shelf and the top of the drawercase and provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension provided with a compartment, with the compartment of the extension of the drawer arranged to be covered by the aforesaid cover-forming extension of the top of the drawer-case in the inner and closed position of the drawer.

3. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine table comprising a table-top; a suitablysup orted drawer-case arranged in under an end of the table-top and comprising a compartment for a forwardly and rearwardly movable drawer, a drawer in the said compartment, which drawer is provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension provided with a compartment.

4. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine table comprising a tabletop; a drawer-case arranged in under an end of the table-top and comprising a horizontally-arranged top and shelves spaced vertically to form compartments, with the top of the drawer-case attached to the table-top, and the drawers in the aforesaid compartments, with each drawer provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension provided with a compartment, and each shelf being provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension arranged to afford bearing to the extension of the drawer on the said shelf.

5. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine table, comprising a table-top; a drawer-case arranged in under an end of the table-top and comprising a horizontallyarranged top and a drawer-receiving compartment next below the last-mentioned top, with the drawer-top arranged next below the table-top and provided at its forward end and inner side with a,

laterally and inwardly proj ecting cover-forming extension, and a drawer for the said comartment, which drawer is provided at its forward end and left-hand side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension having a compartment formed therein and arranged to be covered by the aforesaid extension of the drawer-top in the closed position of the drawer.

6. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine ta ble, comprising a tabletop; a drawer-case arranged in under an end of the table-top and comprising a horizontally-arranged top frame and a drawer-receiving compartment next below the said top frame, with the latter arranged next below and removably attached to the table-top and provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting cm er-forming extension, and a drawer in the said compartment, which drawer is provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension having a compartment formed therein and arranged to be covered by the aforesaid extension of the top frame of the drawer in the closed position of the drawer.

7. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine table, comprising a table-top; two drawer-cases arranged in. under opposite ends respectively of the table-top and comprising each a horizontally-arranged top and a drawer-receiving compartment next below the said drawertop, with the latter arranged next below the table-top and provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally-and inwardly projecting cover-forming extension; a drawer in the said compartment, which drawer is provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension having a compartment formed therein and arranged to be covered by the aforesaid extension of the drawer-top in the closed position of the drawer.

8. Cabinetwork for a sewing-machine table, comprising a table-top; two drawer-cases arranged in under opposite ends respectively of the table-top and comprising each a horizontally-arranged top and a drawer-receiving compartment next below the said drawertop, with the latter arranged next below the table-top; a drawer for the said compartment, and a central drawer arranged and extending between the drawer-cases and hav ing a front'pivoted vertically near one extremity to the table-top, with the upper por tion of the said front projecting forwardly of the lower portion of the said front and arranged flush at its outer surface and corresponding in dimension vertically with the forward edges of the tops of the drawer-eases.

9. Cabinet-work for a sewing-machine ta ble, comprising a table-top two drawer-cases arranged in under opposite ends respectively of the table-top and comprising each a horizontally-arranged top and a drawer-receiving compartment next below the said drawertop, with the latter arranged next'below the tabletop and provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting cover-forming extension; a drawer in the said compartment, which drawer is provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension having a compartment formed therein and arranged to be covered by the aforesaid extension of the drawer top in the closed position of the drawer, and a central drawer arranged and extending between the extensions ofthe drawers of the two drawercases, said central drawer having a front pivoted vertically near one extremity to the table-top, with the upper portion of the said front projecting forwardly of the lower portion of the said front and arranged flush at its outer surface and corresponding in dimension vertically with the forward edges of the tops of the drawer-cases.

10. The combination, with the table-top of a sewing-machine table and the metal legs or frames arranged below the table-top a suitable distance from opposite ends respectively of the table-top, of drawer-cases ar ranged next below the table-top at the outer sides of the aforesaid legs or frames and comprising each a top arranged next below the table-top at the outer side of the adjacent leg or frame, and a drawer supported from each drawer-case next below the top of the said drawer case and movable forwardly and rearwardly in opening and closing respectively, which drawer is provided at the for ward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension which has a compartment and is arranged forward of and instrumental in concealing the adjacent leg or frame, and the top of each drawer-case being provided at its forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension arranged to cover the compartment in the extension of the aforesaid drawer of the said case in the closed position of the drawer.

11. The combination, with the table-top of a sewing-machine table and the metal legs or frames arranged below the table-top a suitable distance from opposite ends respectively of the table-top, of drawer-cases arranged below the table-top at the outer sides of the aforesaid legs or frames, and a drawer supported from each drawer-case and movable forwardly and rearwardly in opening and closing respectively, which drawer is pro- Vided at the forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension which has a compartment and is instrumental in concealing and abuts against the adjacent leg or frame in the closed position of the drawer.

12. The combination, with the table-top of a sewing-machine table and the metal legs or frames arranged below the table-top a suitable distance from opposite ends respectively "of the table-top, of drawer-cases arranged below the table-top at the outer sides of the aforesaid legs or frames, and a drawer supported from each drawer-case and movable forwardly and rearwardly in opening and closing respectively, which drawer is provided at the forward end and inner side with a laterally and inwardly projecting extension arranged forward of and instrumental in concealing the adjacent leg or frame.
