UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANK M. GAULT, OF OKLAHOMA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
POULTRY-SHIPPING COOP.
Specification of Letters Patent,
Patented Jan. 9, 1906.
Application filed September 3, 1904. Serial No] 223,265,
' the base, and at a suitable distance from the floor said wires assume a horizontal position, forming a roof, double strength, the upright wires having horizontal ribs or stays and all crossings of wires firmly held in position by clamps, the roof having a door centrally located therein; and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a strong coop for shipping or transporting poultry; second, great durability; third, convenience; fourth, security from escape of the contents; fifth, adaptability of form. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a view in perspective of the entire coop with the door removed. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view on the line y ac in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the door. Fig. 4 is a side view of one of the cross-bars of the door. Fig. 5 is a view in perspective of the door-fastening device.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
The floor c is firmly secured to sills a a a a and a. Wires or rods e have a portion oftheir lower ends bent at right angles, forming feet, which at regular intervals are inserted into or through the four sills a and rising vertically to a convenient distance from the floor, then assuming a horizontal position, forming a roof. Horizontal rods or wires, firmly secured to the vertical wires 6, form ribs or stays f, all lateral intersections of wires or rods being firmly attached.
The roof G of the coop A is provided with a door B for the insertion and removal of poultry. The gate or door proper, D, is con structed of Ushaped rods of varying sizes, the outer one being the larger and they being secured to cross-bars i, having their ends bent into a circle forming rings or eyes 2", said eyes being adapted to encircle and slide upon the door-supporting rods (1, the elbow ends (1 of which are attached to the roof G of the coop. The door latch or hook E is secured to the under surface of the roof, the eyes mm encircling one of the rods or wires forming the roof. The ends a, pressing against the roof, hold the end 0 in close proximity to the roof, but permit the rod j to slide over the hook 0, and thus prevent any accidental opening of the door.
I do not claim the device 6' for clamping the wires or rods as my invention. I use this style of clamp as being preferable for this purpose; but
What I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture. a rectangu lar, inclosed shipping-coop A, comprising a floor 0, sills a and a, supporting the floor, vertical rods e inserted into the sills a and a, by right-angled projections, for side and end Walls, and bent at their upper ends to form a roof G, having a central opening B, a door D, provided with a fastening device E, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANK M. GAULT.
