To all whom it may concern:

- a citizen of the United States, residing at Me- Lean, in the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hinges, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to portable worm fences, and has for its object to provide improved means for fastening the panels together.
Improved details in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of the invention will be apparent from the detailed description hereinafter, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of the fence. Fig. 2 is an elevation of the fastening means detached and separated, and Fig. 3 is a plan view thereof. Fig. 4 is an elevation, and Fig. 5 a plan view of the fastening means assembled.
Referring specifically to the drawings, the
fencepanels are indicated at 7. The panels are fastened together by a hinge secured to the end posts 8. The hinge members comprise a shank 9, having a pintle 1O fitting in the eye 11 of abolt or shank 12. Both shanks have threaded outer ends and screw in to the end posts 8. The pintle 10 extends vertically from the shank and has at its outer end a laterally-projecting locking-spur 13. At the base of the pintle the shank 9 is enlarged, forming a shoulder 14%, on which the other hinge member is supported.
The eye 11 fits easily on the pintle and is enlarged on one side, as at 15, to receive the locking-spur .18 and permit the passage of the same when the hinge members are assembled. The space between the bottom of the locking-spur and the shoulder 14 is made sufticiently wide to permit the eyebolt to work freely on the pintle, the bolt being supported on the shoulder, as already stated.
The hinge members are secured to the end posts of the fence-panels, and the latter are fastened together by placing the eyebolts on the pintles, as shown in Fig. 1. When the panels are arranged at the desired angle with respect to each other, the hinge members are presented at an angle to each other, which removes the locking-spur from above the enlarged portion of the eye. In thisposition the hinge members are secured against separation and the panels are effectively prevented from being lifted up and separated by stock or otherwise. Before the hinge members can be separated the panels must be straightened out and so arranged that the locking-spur registers with the enlarged portion of the eye.
A hinge constructed as herein described is strong and durable. and by reason of its simplicity in construction it can be cheaply made.
Having thus described my invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be secured by Letters Patent, is
A hinge, one member of which consists of a rod threaded at one end and having at the other end a pintle integral therewith and formed by turning up the end of the rod, and a shoulder formed at the base of the pintle, said pintle having a horizontal projection at the top extending parallel to the axis of the rod on one side only of the pintle, and the other member of which consists of a rod threaded at one end and having at the other end an elongated eye' extending lengthwise of the rod, substantially as shown and described.
