Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
Application filed June 23,1904- Serial No. 213,756.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LABS E. BERGENSTEN, a subject of the King of Sweden and Norway,
residing at New York, in the county ofNew York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toys, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of this invention is to provide an improved toy comprising a stationary member and a pivoted circular member mounted thereon and adapted to be turned or rotated by hot air rising from a radiator or from a gas or other burner, the stationary frame being provided with figures which inclose the movable member and said movable member being also provided with figures which are carried around therewith.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawings form a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in 7 each of the views, and in which- Fi ure 1 is a plan view, and Fig. 2 a sectiona side view, of my improved toy.
In the practice of my invention as shown in the drawings I provide a toy which is of the following construction:
(1, represents the base, which is adapted to be placed on a radiator or other heater, and the base a is provided with an upright member a into which is inserted a vertically-arranged rod 1). The rod 1) is connected with or secured to radially-arranged arms 0, four of which are shown, and the radially-arranged arms 0, together with the upright rod b, constitute a stationary frame provided centrally with an upright pivot-pin N, which may be secured to the radially-arranged arm a or may form a part of the rod 1), and mounted on and pivoted on the upright pin 6 is the movable or rotatable part of my improved toy.
The movable and rotatable part of my improved toy consists of a plate d, having fan-' 7 horses, or men on horses, or horses alone.
One of the radial arms 0 is bent downwardly, as shown at 0 and provided with a.
laterally-directed prong member 0 having a sharpened point 0, adapted to be inserted into a support, so as to hold the stationary and movable parts'or the stationary framework and the movable plate d over a burner or any similar device, and when the prong member 0 is used for the purpose specified the base a will not be employed.
Connected with the prong member 0 is an upright f, which supports a toy figure f and the other radially-arranged-arms c of the stationary frame are provided with loop-shaped members 9, which also support a toy figure f, and in the form of construction shown the toy figures f are made to represent men, one of which is shown as provided with a whip g.
The upright thimble member 61 into which the pivot-pin '6 projects, is provided at the top with an annular support h, to which are secured radially-arranged arms 1', four of which are shown, and said arms support toy figures j and 10, some of said figures representing men and others animals, horses being preferred, and said figures are ivotally supported on the arms 4 and are a apted to swing thereon and also provided with depending weighted rods m, the ends of which extend downwardly within the band 6 at the ends of the corresponding blades (1 and below the arms a.
When this device is placed on a radiator, the heated air rising from the radiator will turn the movable member, comprising the plate d and the parts d, i, j, and lc, and said movable member will be carried around, as Will be readily understood. The device may also be supported over a gas or other burner and a similar result will be produced. Any kind or class of figures may be supported by the parts f and g, so that said fi ures will be above the plate (1, and any kin or class of figures may be su ported by the arms 1'; but I prefer that sai first-named figures represent men and the last-named figures men and As the movable part or parts are carried around, as hereinbefore described, the weighted rods m strike the arms 0 and give the figures j and k a swinging motion, and this motion when horses are used will be similar to that of horses in running, while the motion of the figures which represent men will also be some what similar to that of men when running.
Having fully described my invention,what
through the rotatable device outside of said fan-blades and which come in contact With the radially-arranged members of the stationary frame and give motion to said figures, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name, in presence of the subscribing Witnesses, this 20th day of June, 1904.
LARS E. BERGENSTEN.
