Description

Maya-192s. 1,536,677
G. LIPARI TOY le M 1924 FIGURE 2 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented May 5, 1925.
GAETANO LIPARI, OF SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.
Application filed May 6,
To all 107mm it may concern:
Be it known that I, GAETANO LIPAiu, a subject of the King of Italy, and a resident of San Jose, in the county of Santa Clara and State of California, have invented certain new and useful In'iprovements in Toys, of which the following is a specificatioin This invention relates to a toy having movable parts actuated by air currents.
It is one object otthe invention to provide an air-current actuated element that can be quickly and cheaply manufactured of paper or any similar inexpensive material.
It is another object to provide a device that is so formed and hung as to be readily operated by a slight movement of air.
lit is still another object to provide a device in which identical blanks can be used for making elements that will revolve in opposite directions.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective illustration of the two blanks formed and ready for assembling.
Figure Qis a perspective illust'ation of the assembled device provided with pivots.
Figure 3 is a perspective illustration of another embodiment oi? the invention.
Figure 4. is a side elevation of four of the devices assembled in a standard.
Referring more particularly to the draw ing, I show at 1 a single piece of light cardboard or paper, circular in form and cut fron'i circumference to center as at 2, the
(piarters o and l of the disc on either side of the out 2 being bent in opposite directions along the diameter 5 at right angles to out 2 into the positions shown in plane at right angles to the remaining half or vane 6.
The part indicated by the same numerals, each with the letter a placed in conjunction therewith, is identical in form, shape, and material with the element hcreinbeifore described, and in the process of assembling is inverted with vane 6" arranged at right angles to vane (3.
The two elen'ients are now joined as in liigure 2 by placing quarter l over quarter 4, and quarter 3 over quarter 3 and securing the same together by means of a suitable adhesive.
At the two ends of thedevice, and on the axis thereof bisecting the superimposed quarters 3--8 and 4-4: are arranged pins 1924. $eria1 No. 711,437,
7--7 by means of which the device may be mounted on a standard 8 in any suitable manner as by metal loops 9 set in said support and permitting pins 7 to rotate therein.
Since the vanes 6 and 6 are at right angles to each other and the device rotates on an axis bisecting the angle between said vanes and at right angles to the planes in which the two vanes lie, it is obvious that the said vanes are presented at angles of forty-live degrees to the air current moving in parallel relation to the said axis. Since the air strikes opposite sides of the two vanes simultaneously the device is easily rotated;
The parts of the embodiment shown in Figure 3 are designated by the same reference characters as used in describing the ei'nbodiinent above referred to since the parts are identical therewith in form and size, but thequarters 3-4; and 3-4 are bent in a direction opposite to those inliigures 1 and 2 and consequently the angular position of vanes 6 6" relative to the air current is reversed and the device rotates in the opposite direction.
These two oppositely rotating devices are designated as a whole by the letters A and B? respectively, and I have shown two of each mounted to rotate in orifices 9 in support 8 as shown.
It is to be understood, of course, that while I have herein shown and described the preferred embodin'ient of my invention, ghanges in form, construction and method oi. operation may be made within the scope of the appended claim.
I claim An article of manufacture comprising two syn'nnetrical vanes, each vane comyn'ising a circular element cut at one place from circumference to center and having the two quarters of the element on either side of said out bent in opposite directions at right angles to the remaining half of the element, the two vanes being arranged in opposed rclation to each other and at right angles to each other with the angularly bent quarters of one element overlapping the opposing angularly bent quarters of the other ele ment, the overlapping quarters being secured together andhaving pivot pins mounted therein on the axis bisecting the same.
GAETANO LIPART.
