JAMES MILNOR HICKS, OF SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO THE AUTO STOPPER COMPANY, OF
NEW YORK, N. Y.
CAP FOR VESSEVLS.
'Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 12, 1905.
T011, whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES MILNOR HICKS,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Summit, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Caps for Vessels, of which the following is a specification. Y My invention relates to sealing-caps for vessels; and it consists in certain elements and combinations fully specified and claimed hereinafter.
In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may understand, construct, and use my invention, I will proceed to describe it, referring to the drawings herewith, forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal elevation of a bottle provided with a cap having my invention applied to it. Fig. 2 is a top view of a cap. Fig. 3 is a vertical central section of same with central opening in its top surface. Fig. 4 is the same with closed top surface.
'A is the body of the bottle.
B is the neck.
C is the cap, securedupon the bottle-mout in a well-known manner by indents in the capl-flange taking under a bead on the bottle nec r.
D is the flange pendent from the outer diameter of the top surface of the cap C, and this flangeD is shaped with flat sides. I have shown it as hexagonal; but it may be ofany number of flat sides to enable one to grasp the cap by the hand in order to turn it to lock and unlock the cap to and from the neck of the bottle.
F represents flat sides to the cap.
G represents indents impressed in the flat sides of the flange D, and they take through vertical grooves, registering with said indents under a bead on the bottle-neck by circumferential movement in a well-known manner. The flat sides F aid in turning said cap. Having now fully described my invention and the manner in which I have embodied it, what I claim as new and as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, a metallic sealing-cap for vessels, comprising a top surface, a fiange pendent from the outer diameter of said top surface said pendent flange being shaped with flat sides, said fiat sides being provided with locking and stop indents impressed therein, substantially as specified. Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, this 23d day 0 June, A. D. 1904.
