W. W. GLECKNER.
WINKER BRACE.
APPLICATION FILED APR. s, 1905.
@h/humaan UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM W. GLECKN-ER, OF CANTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
WINKER-BRACE.
To a/ZZ whom t Wwty concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. GrLncxNnR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in W hiker-Braces; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,'such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichA i it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention is an improved winker-brace for harness-bridles; and it consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of my invention is to effect improvements in the construction of the billetstrap, the braces, and the core-strap and in the manner of assembling the same to effect a secure attachment of the braces and corestrap to the billet-strap, and thereby greatly enhance the durability of the brace.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a winker-brace embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the same in an unfinished condition to illustrate the means for and manner of attaching the braces and core-strap to the billet-strap; and Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view, taken through the inner ends of the braces and core-strapand the enveloping portion of the billet-strap.
In my improved Winker-brace the billetstrap l is doubled, and its central doubled portion 2, which is appropriately widened, is provided at the fold with a pair of openings 3. The braces 4 are made from a single strap, which is split, as shown, and has an inner tongue portion 5, which is of asize and shape to adapt it to exactly iit between the widened doubled portion ofthe billet-strap. The corestrap 6` has at its inner end a tongue portion 7 to bear against the under sidehof the tongue of the braces and is split to form the core portions, which are enveloped in the braces.
In making my improved winker-brace the tongue portion 7 of the core-strap is stitched at its base to the tongue portion 5 of the braces, the rounds are passed throughithe Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April 3, 1905. Serial No. 3,561.
Patented Nov. 14, 1905.
openings 3 in the doubled portion of the billet-strap, and the latter is folded or doubled so as to bear against opposite sides of the tongues 5 and 7, and the edges of. the two end portions of the billet-strap are stitched together, the stitching extending also through the tongue portion of the braces, thereby firmly securing the core-strap and the braces to the billet-strap and greatly increasing the durability of the brace.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A winker-brace comprising a doubled billet-strap having openings in its fold, and a brace having its divided portions passed through the said openings and provided with atongue portion between the doubled portions of the billet-strap, substantially as described.
Q. A winker-brace comprising adoubled billet-strap having openings in its fold, abrace having its divided portions passed through the said openings and provided with a tongue portion between the doubled portions of the billet-strap, and a core-strap having divided portions in the brace and a tongue portion bearing against the tongue portion of the brace, said tongue portions of the brace and corestrap being secured between the doubled portions of the billet-strap.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM W. GLECKNER.
